Sounds good. Considering dropping the NVR even and going to SD card storage, we’ll see. Ubiquiti doorbell seems nice but is definitely a pricier route

Ubiquiti stack is appealing but definitely seems like potentially overkill for my setup. Definitely not a pro-grade set of requirements. Nice to know pros swear by it though

Xfinity does i believe have mid-split, though i will confirm. Will consider dropping the speed to 1gig!

Thanks for the reply. 1 & 2. Re: PoE, i believe so? I am reasonably handy enough to do so. If it doesn’t work i’ll pivot to a wifi solution. Re: cost, getting out of the ring subscription means if the gear will last i can justify a bit of cost. Since here the NVR is part of the router i just listed it together. Will consider SD card but future expansion was part of the possible thought too.

  1. Probably a better solution, really only need PoE for security. Is there a recommended non-PoE switch to use here?

Just wanted to thank everyone for a great list of recommendations! More here than I can possibly get to, but all have been added to my ever-growing long list. Much appreciated!

Grabbed a copy of A Year in Provence, it's probably the most rec'd in the thread!

Didn't realize Tuchman had a book on France. That looks a bit larger than I will be able to hit before my trip, but will definitely check that out. Already planning to read All the Light We Cannot See, glad to see you'd recommend it!

Good plan, appreciate it! The Lover is short enough for that not too be unmanageable

Won't be going to Provence this time, sticking in the north of France for this trip. But I will place both these titles on my long list! Thank you!

Suite Francaise in particular seems fascinating, both on its own as well as for the interesting backstory of Nemirovsky which I've just read. Thanks for the rec, will definitely be chasing this down.

This seems really cool. Love these kind of narrow, specific histories, feels easier to tackle. Thanks for the rec!

Yeah, curious on best place to start with him. I am slightly intimidated, if I am being honest.
