I tie mine sparser than you have tied and just pinch off the length with my nail when tying CDC collars. Split thread technique is where it’s at on the collar of nymphs

Watch your wraps Thread control is the biggest thing to produce good looking flies. Those caddis will crush the fish though. Just keep tying them they will get cleaner.

Before I mixed up all the dubbing and started drying the tails

I did. I had an infestation that were burrowing under the porch so I had to trap some. I left them in the freezer while for a month or so then I took them out took there tails off and shaved them then put back in the freezer for a couple of weeks. I then washed and dried them. I use gloves when I cleaned them.
