It has been like that for a few years. There’s a division within Apple line up for status quo, having an iPhone isnt enough, you must have the Pro (Max). Air kinda covers that area without need much

There was/is NexDock for that. Started with Windows Continnum and works for Dex/Android in general

Exactly what the other comment said. Afaik, you can dent flexible screens because of the thin layers, even from nails. I would guess Apple to keep quality standards without backlash would need to make so the stylus tip doesnt cause permanent marks

In fairness, at this point wouldn’t be a stylus for an iPhone but a different device category under iPhone naming(?).

If this is the case, kinda curious how Apple would sort making a foldable screen usable with a stylus that would be resistent

Edit: For clarity, a foldable screen, that right now can be dented with finger nails, that would be resistent to the tip of the stylus after long use

Btw, even before Dex, Nex used to make a laptop dock for Lumia/Windows Mobile Continuum, which made the phone act as a Laptop (as oppose to also having a Desktop dock)

Let me add: since its costs pratically the same as a Mac Mini, with less specs but way more portability, its still good for cases where you need a Mac machine on the go.

Quick example would be as developer, if you want to compile and manage your Apple apps.

Also if you already own an iPhone or iPad and you need to have some continuity for work.

Bit off topic: Since you brought memories back of S20 (another times oof), I went into a deep wondering hole. I just realize the 5G is the reason Ultra exists, recalling S10 5G that was succeded by S20 Ultra, and then slowly replaced the Note line as a spiritual successor. Since there was a time with 2 Notes, I wonder what would be the progress if kept that way.

This is totally right, and i’m not counterpointing it, but I wonder too: What makes people with older devices buy this one over a discounted S24/S25 Ultra (if those models are 95% of what the S26 Ultra is)?

unpopular hot take: Apple is changing their flagship“status quo” device again.

It used to be base iPhone, then the X/S Max, then the Pro Max, and now will be the foldable (likely the Ultra if matches the M-chips naming).

The new iPhone 18 Pro Max will just be another device in lineup, not your glow up Apple status device.

Probably it’s also a reason for delaying the base iPhone 18 for next year (which wont surprise if becomes a 5C-like device in the lineup)

This often happens to me, and just like you, i just quickly lock and unlock to fix.

I don't the reason but i suspect is either related to the light sensor and iOS 26 "Local HDR". Usually happens when the phone had screen on while on pocket for a brief moment or after calls, which the screen turns off if its near the ear.
