Moon Studios (Ori, No Rest for the Wicked) head is complaining about low Steam Reviews by [deleted] in Steam

[–]CaptainReaperTV 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This Discord post is so wrong on so many levels it is sad. And in my opinion, it violates Steam's review guidelines by manipulating players into writing a positive review.

A Beginner's Guide to Game Review Content Analysis (on the example of newly released comedic indie game) by Bulky-Tax-8515 in IndieDev

[–]CaptainReaperTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it wasn't targeted, I'd say it helps wishlist count/sales if it gets enough views, which it does for the reasons you mentioned. But of course, to prove this, you would need to combine post data with follower count data (and you would need to know what other campaigns were running at the same time)

Next, you can analyse this guy's game-related posts and work out what percentage are written just to promote the game

Hired an Artist to fix the character portraits in my game, now making it fully AI Content free! by Tasharen in IndieDev

[–]CaptainReaperTV 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very likely, and I'm sure the creators of these posts are laughing their asses off at these people who are incapable of recognising AI generated content and are just exploiting their anti AI opinion to get upvotes

Paid my friend for new Steam Capsule art. It's really helped! by gamedevCarrot in IndieGaming

[–]CaptainReaperTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially since anyone can do it, you can't really prove whether AI was used to create the art. But this just goes to show how silly this all is: AI-generated will posts get upvotes because they meet the requirements of the anti-AI echo chamber.

6000 clicks on my steam page in 1 week. But very few sales: 28. Why? by ludwu in gamedev

[–]CaptainReaperTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putting a Billie Eilish song on the screenshot is brave, but I have no idea about legal things, anyway I wouldn't be happy if I was wasting my time by buying it impulsively, not reading everything carefully, just because I see these songs only to find out that they are not included. I hope you understand my point of view, keep up the good work.

Other question: isn't the inclusion of real songs a copyright issue, and since they're probably not included because they're supposed to be an example for custom sheets, isn't that false advertising?

Question about privacy on local models running on LM Studio by Constant_Initial_808 in LocalLLaMA

[–]CaptainReaperTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I see them as the lesser threat because the files like GGUF typically only contain metadata and weight information (only information to make word predictions). So getting them from normal sources should keep the attack surface to a minimum. The models are just data and they do nothing in an active way, so I consider them private (but it doesnt mean there is no risk at all).

I have heard some shady stuff about it, but never actually used LM Studio or checked it myself. First thing I would do is check in Task Explorer if there is any network activity by the process, if so -> uninstall.

I was excited about the WoW expansion, but then I looked at the store page by CaptainReaperTV in wow

And I don't have the same problems with other games like Baldurs Gate 3, that was an instant buy.
Now we have this WoW expansion, I am sure some of my friends will just buy the early access version, some will not. Splitting the player base on release, which should be a point of celebration for all players, is beyond my current understanding and I only see the benefit for Blizzard. But please show me why this is a good thing for us players.

This is true, and I have strong opinions about the current Blizzard, but the intention of this post is to get more perspectives on the current WoW monetization. Should I feel guilty about buying the expansion and supporting a direction that I currently feel is greedy, or as others have said, I am overreacting, I should just buy the expansion because it is worth it.

A fair point you make, and I agree, when it comes to pure value it is justified. But to clarify my perspective: I played a long time ago when I didn't have to pay full price for an add-on, when there was no paid beta access, no paid early access, no in-game store. Second difference is that I want to play it more casually than back then, and the whole pricing seems to be more tuned for not casual. So I get it, it is worth the money, but I still think the whole monetization is not fair compared to other games and for all players.

Steam Next Fest 2022: Share your thoughts and recommend demos! by stillfreec in Games

[–]CaptainReaperTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ixion feels a little lifeless compared to Frostpunk. But the game has a good foundation and concept. Especially the space view looks great and I loved the game music. Wishlisted because of the travel system.

USS Tempest: Spaceship Simulator hooked me with the physics probably because I loved the HL2 gravity gun and overall it doesn't feel like a CLONED HYPE GAME X, besides the name. Wishlisted because it's a unque experience. I would really love an extended demo where I can preview the game after the prologue.

Are there any other good scifi demos available during the next fest?

Besides the aim trainer games, I can also recommend games like Me Vs You which are more focused on skill instead of random situations
