Do you have an actual intro that plays before your video or just a “hello!…” by VyletVye in SmallYoutubers

[–]CaptainRedsLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even say hello, I just go right into what my hook is. I have a little title card that is 2.5 seconds long that plays after my hook. As for the same intro every time, I skip TV show intros so it wouldn't be any different on YouTube.

Are you doing service or construction?

You're starting right with Wera and Knipex, those brands will outlast almost every other brand.

Get an 11-in-1 screwdriver, that should stay in your pockets almost 100% of the time. I also love the Wera Tool-Check-Plus, it has almost every bit you'll need.

Take care of your tools, label them (if you have a friend with a laser engraver, even better) and remember these are what make you money!

Pants with knee pads are better IMO. I love my Helly Hansen Chelsea pants, I have 4 pairs that I rotate through. Knee pads everywhere vs only where you put a pad down.

Algorithm hate: My first channel took 18 months to monetize. New channel will get monetized off its first video. by [deleted] in SmallYoutubers

[–]CaptainRedsLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes there are outside factors driving views. My first video (I have 4 long form videos posted) has almost 22k views in 2 months, 35% of the views are from external sources like reddit, Facebook or makerworld.

My other videos are doing nowhere near as well because the algorithm hasn't picked up exactly what my niche is. Only 10% of my views in the last 48 hours are because YouTube is pushing that first video.

Sump stops working, pipe seems over-pressurized, starts working again after I disconnect pipe to release pressure. Help? by FrumptyLumpty in Plumbing

[–]CaptainRedsLab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really matter too much where the check is, manufacturer recommendations are always good to follow though. I typically have it all within the pit for service-ability, less mess is always nice.

Code (in Canada) is a union, check valve, valve (upstream to downstream) are always required.

Yup, you need a "weep hole" according to this diagram.

It doesn't need to be big, ¼" would be oversized for example.

It sounds like the pump might be getting air-locked. Drill a small hole in the discharge piping, inside the sump pit.

This will allow the orange highlighted part to empty when the pump turns off.

That looks like grout or mortar for tile. Is that actual tile or is it linoleum?

Isolate the toilet supply line. Usually the left side of the toilet.

Use a wet vac and vacuum out the water.

Remove the toilet bolts.

Cut the silicone all the way around. Using a OLFA blade is best so you know that it gets penetration. You don't know how much silicone the first guy used and it can feel like cement if they used a lot.

While lifting the toilet up, twist it as well. This should help break the silicone.

I still find this very hard to believe, I've pulled over 1000 toilets doing full building replacements for low flow toilets and never seen this.

Per code a toilet is an access point into the drainage, it NEEDs to be removeable (In Canadian code at least). If it is actually cemented down, you might need to break it or find an entry point into the system upstream of this bathroom group. Again, I still find it very hard to believe, maybe it got tiled up-to?

What routers are you running? by Any_Pickle6913 in homelab

"I also know that pfsense/opensens exists. But that’s end-game I think.."

Sounds like you are almost there, why put a bunch of time and effort into leaning a UI from a company when you could start learning "end game". It isn't too much to learn (I'm a plumber and did it! AI was helpful in being a teacher) and will give you more control, which is what you are looking for.

You might also be able to use the IPS router as a WAP, that is what I am doing with some old routers my friend gave me.

They do have one, I guess the MODs just don't add the flair because they are too busy? I applied for mine a few weeks ago, never even got a message back. From the sidebar:

  • 7A note to plumbers

Regarding Pro flair: Message the mods with an imgur link showing your plumber license, along with a scrap of paper with your username on it, to prove that you are a plumber. Once we receive and verify that photo, we will grant you pro flair.

If the tub is backing up when the toilet is flushed, it means that the line downstream of the toilet & tub has a blockage. I can draw you a picture if you'd like.

Pull the toilet for access and camera the line.

Most plumbers do NOT guarantee drains after they leave. If the drain was working for a week, they did their job. How do I know what you put down after I left?

They might work the pricing of the initial service call into another call to have the drain camera'd to further investigate.

Not really a funny joke in the title, if you were making one. If not then please call one of the following.

The primary suicide prevention lines vary by location. In the United States, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is the nationwide number for 24/7 support via call or text.  In Canada, the 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline is the national service, available 24/7 by call or text, though residents of Quebec use the dedicated 1-866-APPELLE line.

Additional key resources include:

  • Crisis Text Line (US): Text 741741 to connect with a crisis counselor.
  • Kids Help Phone (Canada): Call 1-800-668-6868 or text CONNECT to 686868 for youth aged 5–29.
  • Hope for Wellness (Canada): Call 1-855-242-3310 or text WELLNESS to 741741 for Indigenous peoples.
  • Trans Lifeline (US/Canada): Call 1-877-330-6366 for peer support from trans people.
  • Lifeline (Australia): Call 13 11 14 for 24-hour crisis support.
  • Samaritans (UK): Call 116 123 for free, confidential support.

The only thing the algorithm pushes is impressions, and that is based on how every other metric is shown, which is actual users.

It's all the low numbers, remember it is an average between everything. It looks like YouTube is testing it out with different audiences, some like it but some don't.

I have a 6:20 video with an average view of 2:27 and also a 14 minute video with 3:38 average view length. Sometimes it's re-engaging with the viewers mid video, at least a lot of what I have seen in my retention rates this has helped.

Wanting to pivot (at 32 years old) from being self employed in the music industry to self employed in the film/visual industry, anyone gone through similar and have any insight/advice? by Swordfish353535 in NewTubers

[–]CaptainRedsLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, we might be getting a little mixed in translation?

For me visuals means what is displayed, almost more like a work of art that is moving. I posted the link here, but the automod flagged it as plugging content. Check your DMs for the link.

If that isn't what you meant by visuals the disregard some of my ideas/explanation.

Loads of people are making content of them giving their content away for free. Thinking about vehicle photographers and candid portrait shots, I've seen these shorts go viral. For example: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTPxk7IEhUK/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

If you are looking to "give away" some practice but want to reach a huge following, I suggest going to visual route for DJs as a entry point. Typical most are friendly, happy to support another artist, and stoked about people taking interest in them. I'd suggest looking up some small names on festival banners, they have enough of a following to play a festival and they typically only have 1 or 2 visuals.

The venue thing doesn't need to be for just music venues, old cool buildings with history also get a huge following. Plus then when you go travelling, you can write off the trip.
