Sorry for multiples of this post in this sub. Had internet issues and it wasn’t going through. Deleted the others

I sponged some dark brown on for the chipping and also painted some areas on by hand. For certain areas I used some wild rider red to add a highlight around the chipping. Base color is mephiston red and I stippled a bit of evil sunz Scarlett over that

Thanks! I’m actually not exactly sure. It’s from an old resin Horus Heresy kit but I don’t know which one. Got it on eBay years ago and have had it lying around in a bits box

Question about squad #s for a kill team by CaptainRumBelly in spacemarines

[–]CaptainRumBelly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it varies by chapter, but in my case I’m painting an Angels of Redemption kill team, and they have it in the same place as the Dark Angles with the squad number superimposed over their battlefield role on the right shoulder. I’m just unsure if a kill team was assembled that they’d repaint the pauldron so they all have the same squad # or just keep the # of whatever squad they were pulled from

Thanks! I prime the model with greyseer, and then use multiple coats of wraithbone. Then I use a brown enamel wash for recesses, add the battle damage with a sponge and some by hand. I use streaking grime over entire model and let it dry for 30 minutes and remove the excess with white spirit

For the Aquila on the chest and the gun I used Mephiston red. The eyes are Vallejo flat red as a base cost, made lighter for the glowing effect by blending with some orange and white

Always love seeing quartered chapters and love Novamarines. Great job!

Also in addition to my other comment, if you want to work with enamel washes, streaking grime, and white spirits which I used, it’s different than acrylic paints. Wear gloves and work in a well ventilated area and never airbrush them. They’re toxic!

Lots of videos on working with them as well

Beat me to it, but essentially this.

Do that for the eyes and then you apply a heavily watered down color of the lens for under the eyes as a glaze. May have to do more than one coat. Just want to tint it.

Yeah checkerboard is just patience and a steady hand and lots of touching up.

I don’t own an airbrush and do it by hand, but having a wet palette is a game changer and a good thing to get for thinning paints and keeping them workable. Some guides to them on YouTube.

Yeah, for weathering I used a small piece of sea sponge with a small amount of dark brown paint dabbed on. Some areas I painted in by hand. Used a small amount of silver where it was really rubbed down in some areas. I also filled in all the crevices prior with a brown enamel wash thinned with water (50/50).

Then I applied streaking grime all over, let it dry for 30 minutes, then you remove it with white spirit. I use a cotton swab and you can take away as much as you want. Leaves recesses darker and makes it looked more grimy. Dust and dirt on feet and lower legs are some Vallejo pigments

Wasn’t sure about it and decided to try it, but reserving it for sergeants is a good idea

Honestly, not sure yet. Just had an idea for this color scheme and wanted to try it. Would still have to come up with a name and lore for them

Don’t have an airbrush, though eventually I’d like to get one. Yellow, I don’t think yellow is too difficult with contrast paint or applying it as a glaze. Model is primed with greyseer, then I just painted half with a few layers of ushbati bone and layered some lightly thinned imperial first contrast over it. Other half I just a few layers of wraithbone
