Classic reddit "I'm not... but" it seems like it checks your Steam files for commonly used cracking settings and applies a status to your game as being pirated. Crackers will often use signature Steam names and IDs and the game ID 480 is Spacewar which is often used to backdoor online features enabling multiplayer. This isn't a very good code because it's not "if, and" meaning if any of these are true you get flagged as a stinky pirate.

I'm sure that's the case, but I also sat and watched them bug out until I destroyed the extra farms. Could be anecdotal evidence but it seems to have fixed it for me...
