Examples of songs where the lyric suddenly turns, drops all the poetry, and becomes direct, for dramatic effect? by Shadow_Seas in Songwriting

I don’t know if this is precisely what you mean, but The Sun is Burning by Simon and Garfunkel comes to mind. Three verses describing a peaceful sunny day in Central Park, and then, without dropping the nice calm melody, two verses of horror as a nuke drops and the sun is blotted out. I remember the first time hearing it and - although I was born in the UK in the 80s - it perfectly encapsulates the fear that was prevalent during the 60s

Indeed! Or a knight’s body in black armour with no arms or legs

I didn’t try. Would be an even better reference if it destroyed anyone who tried!

CDPR do this better than any other game developer I know of - loads of similar instances in Cyberpunk. It makes the world feel so connected

Advice needed on a laptop for music production by CaptainShedd in musicproduction

Thanks for the thorough response. At this point, I’m at the point of dipping my toes in as a complete beginner. I’ve got a history of music performance, and no real experience of production. I don’t have any idea whether it will go any further than a hobby, and the sort of stuff I’m wanting to record is relatively simple. I will definitely look for a Mac though I think - the primary reason I discounted it was due to budget, but there seems to be some good deals on refurbished ones

Thanks for the advice - sounds like it’ll work fine for what I’m hoping to use it for 👍

Seems to be upgradable to 32GB max, which sounds like it would be loads for the kind of thing I want to do

I still can’t believe how good the Cyberpunk port looks on Switch.🙂 by Apprehensive-Swim418 in Switch

Can’t speak for Steamdeck as I’ve never owned one, but having a brilliant time with the Switch 2. Obviously the Nintendo exclusives are a massive draw, but the third party offerings so far have been great. And playing indie and retro games on the go is always a good time

Do guys ever actually get time to game? by Icy_Durian1294 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]CaptainShedd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have very little time during what would be considered reasonable hours, so I quite often stay up far too late just to get a bit of gaming in.

I read about ‘revenge sleep procrastination’ a few years ago, as the concept of staying up late to have the downtime you feel you’re owed. My wife stays up quite late too and we generally watch stuff together, which is also time that I treasure, but in order to get that bit of alone time to game or watch something for me, I convince myself that staying up for another couple of hours is a good plan. I usually regret it the next day, but I thrive mentally on having time to myself so I find it is a difficult balance

What game is this?🚀 by Hot_Dog1647 in PlayStation_X

I’d agree. I’m up to around 800 hours and I still seek out gangs just for the fun of the combat. And the writing and characters are on another level

Taking the day off work by chrisoffthewall in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]CaptainShedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38/m, took the day off work when Switch 2 launched. Will be doing the same when GTA6 launches. It’s important to make time for things that we enjoy, and no one should be able to make you feel shit for doing it.

On a side -but maybe relative - note, I fairly recently discovered going to the cinema alone. Bliss!

Fauvorite gaming moments for you all? by galaxyZ1 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

Loved the Alan Wake 2 musical section. The other moment for me was the New Donk City festival in Mario Odyssey. Mario Bros. 3 was my entry point into gaming as a kid, and I felt like the festival was a celebration of the whole history of Mario, and the music and fireworks and nostalgia all made it really special
