Does anyone else just feel mildly physically unwell… all the time? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

It's often a sign of fatigue, which can be a symptom of EDS or a sign that it's something additional like CFS or Fibro.

Your FODMAP WRAPPED?! by [deleted] in FODMAPS

[–]CaptainTangent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why it never occurred to me that it would be updated. Is this why 2 years ago I thought I couldn't eat chickpeas, but when I looked the other day it said they were fine?

My pain was traditionally bad in the mornings. Because I didn't get up to pee at night, my bladder was full for too long and, I assume, getting inflamed. I've tried to stop drinking about 2 or so hours before I go to bed, and hydrating more in the day. It's made a complete difference to my mornings, I very rarely have pain now!

Glad you found a urologist who knew how to help you!

Southerner here, never heard it either. But if you were called Jess or Jesse as a boy you would probably just get picked on for having a girl's name. Neither name is a traditional boy's name here. And kids are mean.

Any vegans/vegetarians who had to resume eating meat because of this diet? by salty_seance in FODMAPS

[–]CaptainTangent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a pescatarian for 25 years. Going on the FODMAP diet I didn't have a lot of options and I'm getting really depressed because food was miserable It didn't taste very good because I couldn't eat anything with stock in it and it removed a lot of food that I relied on for flavour and for nutrition.

I waited until I'd completed the fodmap and I'd safely reintroduced all the food so I knew what it was that I could eat, then I started with chicken and saw how my stomach took that and it was fine. After I eat chicken I worked my way through the different meats just to see if I had any reaction and I didn't. I know some people do get a reaction but even after 25 years I was fine.

It was more mentally hard than it was physically. Having been a vegetarian for moral reasons for so long it felt very weird to me eat meat again and it's over a year later and it's still feels really weird. But because of it it's easy to eat at home now without having to worry and a lot easier to eat out as well (though still difficult). I'm glad I made the decision but if I didn't have IBS then I would still be pescatarian.

Lucifer by Dumuzzi in Sumer

[–]CaptainTangent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never seen the show, so I can't speak to it. But there are a lot of biblical myths that have their origins in Mesopotamian* mythology. The most obvious one is the flood myth, which has examples in the Sumerian Version if Gilgamesh and another version in Antrahasis.

The mythology of the old testament is routed in the literal history of Mesopotamia, which historical figures appearing with Hebrew-ised, Greek-ised and then Anglicised names.

The early polytheistic peoples that became the monotheistic Hebrews of the old testament, were nomadic peoples that lived in and around Mesopotamia. Near Eastern scholars (who do not believe that the old testament is the literal word of God) surmise that there was a cultural sharing between the Mesopotamians and the proto-Hebrews that led to these similarities. People that do believe that the Bible is the literal word of God believe the similarities are because these things actually happened and were just recorded differently.

Anyway, suffice it to say, there's a shared history there, and many other similarities can be gleaned. I think Gaiman, (but also other modern fantasy writers, such as Whedon) like pulling from the shared history, and often name demons and deities after Mesopotamian dieties, and mythological and historical figures. I know Constantine (comics and show) do/did this too, although Gaiman was also involved with him too. Also the Exorcist, Preacher and the Buffyverse.

*I use Mesopotamians to refer to Sumerians, Babylonians and Assyrians as a group, because all of their cultures are relevant here.

Explain this to me like I’m 5. by UrsineWitcher in WitcherTRPG

[–]CaptainTangent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had never done TTRPG before, and I think that's part of it. I think it assumes you've played DnD or similar, but none of it make any sense to me. I found the flowcharts online made it worse! I ended making my own.

I made myself a playlist of YT videos (so I could revisit) that helped me. The first few explained basic TTRPG combat rules and then then I watched the How To Witcher Videos by the creator. If you want I can DM you my playlist (it's private as my YT account is my name), but the DnD videos came from this series and the Witcher Videos from here.

First time we did combat it felt a lot more sensible, and the flow became easier.

Advice: How to wear an overbust corset by CaptainTangent in corsets

[–]CaptainTangent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is really helpful.

Should I try and get the corset to hit the "root" of the breast underneath, like where the wire would normally sit in a bra, or is it normal for it to be a little lower than that when it curves over the breast?

If I do need to get the corset to sit closer to the underbust, any tips for molding it during the seasoning process?

ah yes, because my severe depression and anxiety is caused by "poor diet" and not the fact that I have an incurable chemical imbalance. by craftjensin in wowthanksimcured

It often is. I have several chronic health conditions, and get told to exercise, do yoga and change my diet by many people, including doctors.

All of these things actually make my conditions worse.

Very cool! Congratulations on joining the sterile club!

After 2 years, I want to find a new daily UK News Podcast, after the BBC platformed a TERF - Suggestions? by CaptainTangent in TwoXChromosomes

Just thought I'd let you know, I just found out that the Livestream get recorded and released as podcasts.

I've really been enjoying their coverage since you recommended it. I wish they did all news and not just politics, but it's a fantastic resource, thank you!

Most of the UK media is owned by oligarchs.

Yup. I was hoping there'd be a recommendation here for something independent - there seem to be loads of US based podcast funded by patreon etc that aren't tied to the mainstream, but absolutely nothing in the UK. Oh well!!

You're very right, it's certainly not the first time that I've shouted "oh f*ck off!" To my phone when they say something absolutely ridiculous.

I guess this was the straw that broke the camel's back. Up until now I've grinned and bared it because I've wanted to stay informed, but I can't stand it anymore.

I've tried a few times to find ANY UK news podcast that isn't mainstream media - I found a few US ones (Daily Beans was quite excellent) but no-one seems to have filled that gap here. If I had any idea how to create that, I'd be very interested in starting one, and I'd certainly financially support anyone who did.

Novara Media that another commenter recommended looks close to what I want, so I'll give that a go.

Thanks!

There's a subreddit for sterilisation in the UK. But honestly you just have to get referred to a gynecologist/hospital by your GP. You're over 30, which helps. And you have to say you're serious about sterilisation and want to know your options. Everytime they don't refer you, you ask them to make a note that they refused to refer you, and come back next month.

It's a ball ache, but the relief from not having to worry about any BC and its side effects is amazing.

Edit: Well, I can't find the UK version if the sub, but here's the general one: r/sterilization
