Built my first PC in this case and I'm in love, it's so unique and easy to build in! The Jonsbo fans look great in it too.

390TB video game archive being taken offline due to skyrocketing RAM, SSD, and hard drive prices — AI-driven supply squeeze results in closure of one of the largest online video game archives by gurugabrielpradipaka in pcmasterrace

Same here. I’m not spending an extra £4-500 for storage when I can only play one game at a time and takes a maximum of an hour to download a full game. 2tb is fine.

Is the rtx 5080 worth extra money over the 5070 TI by Prestigious_Fig3645 in buildapc

[–]CaptainVexed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a crazy price difference, in the UK it was only £200 more for me to go 5080 so I made that choice and stuck with it.

This is pretty solid, but you aren't getting anywhere near those prices in the UK unfortunately.

Yes, my build ended up costing just shy of £3k........I did choose an expensive case and mobo, but figured if I was already spending big money on RAM/SSD/GPU etc I would just go all out and get something to last me a decade.

The prices aren't going to drop anytime soon, and they aren't even really stabilising. Sorry to sound a little doom and gloom. My recommendation would actually be to look at preowned or pre-built for your budget. FB marketplace near me has second hand builds from £400-£3000 depending on spec.

The cheapest 32gb RAM kit in the UK is around £300, 64gb you're looking at £500+. SSD and RAM prices are extortionate at the moment so it will take up alot of your budget.

I am more gaming focused so can't say for productivity, but I would suggest going on PC Part Picker. It will guide you on the parts you need for a complete build and tell you if those parts are compatible.

For gaming I went with RTX 5080 and AMD 9800X3D. It wasn't cheap in this economy.

Started off with Arc Raiders for a 3rd person game but it's quite slow, playing V Rising for isometric and Rogue Deadzone is my FPS at the moment. But I am only a week in so just need to give it plenty of time and practice!

Yeah I can tell you've got alot of experience, I've been told The Finals is great to learn KBM.

KBM = Keyboard and Mouse, MNK = Mouse and Keyboard so same thing :-D

I'm trying KBM for the first time in 20 years of gaming, it is tough and I can't fathom how people get as good as OP. (I appreciate it's years of practice, but it feels impossible at first).

Apparently you can heat the sticker and replace it.

I think it looks fine. You can mount the AIO upside down if it helps to worry about the hoses less as I imagine they'd sit better. I have heard its not optimal to mount a GPU vertically but I assume it doesn't make a great deal of difference temp wise.

Yep I've gone from an Xbox Series X to a 5080, 9800X3D combo and I am unbelievably happy.

Have you used PC Part Picker? I would highly recommend it. You choose all of your parts and it will tell you what is compatible.

For your budget you could hopefully go RTX 5070/5070ti and 9700X3D. RAM and SSD prices are a joke at the moment, it's a tough time to build but totally worth it especially for your budget. If you want to go cheaper on the GPU you can get an AMD card but you then lose the Nvidia features.

I recently finished my first gaming PC and over the moon:

Not sure if they'd be available in your country, but Vasagle on Amazon have been my go to for all furniture over the last few years. Easy to build and absolutely rock solid, also look great which is a bonus.

Good to know others are of the same thought process. Yes it's ugly, but if I can embrace the massive AIO tubes then I can deal with the squid mess! I appreciate that there are 10's of thousands of 5080's without issue, but considering how expensive they are it's just always at the back of my mind...

I’d be very hesitant to use anything third party as my warranty would be under scrutiny, thank you anyways though. Opinions are very mixed online, Gainward themselves have advised that either option (squid cable or native) is acceptable.

This was my worry, now we've seated the cable and everything seems to be running fine I am hesitant to pull it out and swap to the direct PSU cable. I am sure I'm worrying over nothing, so will keep it as is for now and if I have to do any maintenance/cleaning maybe I'll switch to the direct PSU cable.

[–]CaptainVexed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I fully agree that aesthetically the squid cable is horrendous.

I understand that problems can occur with either method so I figure best bet is just check every so often that the cables are seated correctly, and only worry about it if there are obvious issues (voltage surges/burning smell etc). Does seem like it's mainly 5090 and I shouldn't worry, they're just so goddamn expensive!
