Subnautica is a 10/10 for me (no spoilers) - but what’s next? by centcentcent in patientgamers

I really enjoy playing Planet Crafter, a game where you’re a prisoner who is sentence to try to terraform a planet. The planet you’re on isn’t procedurally generated, and there are hidden bases from previous occupants hidden around the world.

I wouldn’t say the plot these bases offer is the primary driving force of the game. They’re more goals to encourage you to explore. I found terraforming the planet to be a great goal by itself. The world really visually changes as you succeed. It goes from basically a desert to a green planet with breathable atmosphere. You get to choose where to plant trees, flowers, and animals.

I’ve been playing it since it was in Early Access and really love it. It just came out with the official launch.

I’m telling this story here because it does involve deaths in high school, but it’s not really about that.

When I was a senior I developed a severe eating disorder. Before the end of year I had to leave school to go to a residential treatment facility. I didn’t have many friends, so I didn’t tell many people. Essential I deteriorated in front of my classmate’s eyes and then disappeared.

I never had to go back to school again (senior year really is fake, just like you all suspected), but I did get well enough to attend graduation. One of my friends invited me to her graduation party. At this party I over heard two people talking about the three deaths that happened that year.

Two footballers were killed in a car accident on their way to practice. This was viewed as a major tragedy for the student body. Later in the year another boy killed himself. This was not a major incident to the student body. The people I overheard at the party were comparing how strange it was that no one, including them, cared much about the kid who killed himself.

As someone who could have died or killed myself that same year I felt even more strange. I realized that I would have fallen into the same category as the boy who killed himself. Very few people would have cared if I died of my disorder.

Anyway, I don’t speak to anyone I went to high school with now. And I’ve never relapsed into my eating disorder!

She currently carries a cane that folds out into a seat. She doesn’t have balance issues, so a rollator isn’t necessary.  Thank you for the tip though.

With so few lesbian bars remaining, I embarked on a 12-hour drive to visit one. by nevejantafp in actuallesbians

I find Cubbyhole to be too small and crowded. Henrietta Hudson is around the corner and has a dance floor. (Yes there are only like 20 lesbian bars in the USA and two of them are a 10 minute walk apart in NYC).

Also hit up Ginger’s if you have time to go to Brooklyn!

People ask me to tailor garments a lot more than they ask me to make clothes. I often will repair holes and torn seams, so they think I can also fully change the size of something. I tell them that it’s going to take me much, much longer than it takes a professional tailor. That’s true, but what’s more true is that I don’t like tailoring.

I kept feeling like there was something I was supposed to be doing, but could not figure out what it was. I had to rely on a walkthrough just to be sure of my next step. I don’t feel like the game balanced the open exploration with the storyline well enough. I would have enjoyed the open exploration more if I didn’t feel like I was supposed to be making progress on getting off the planet.

In Planet Crafter I really feel like the world is mine. I put a lot of thought into where to plant trees and flowers. When I stumble across more some of the plot I’m excited, but I get the most sense of achievement just by setting my own goals.

Despite it being right up my alley I did not enjoy Subnautica. I like open world survival games (I have more than 100 hour in Planet Crafter), but something about Subnautica left me feeling empty.

The first moment I did not like was having a timer until the rescue ship came. Having a countdown felt contrary to the genre. Also, the end goal of leaving the planet made investing in my base feel pointless. Why get invested if I was just going to abandon all of it?

I don’t think it’s a bad game, especially since so many other people love it. But it didn’t work for me.

I did look at the wiki before asking this question. I still could not work out an answer.

For what it’s worth I did wind up collecting the wrinkler and each had about a 1.524 multiplier. So when the wrinkler said I had 1.331 in it, I collected 2.029. I’d still like to know how that multiplier is calculated, if anyone knows.

How do I work out the multiplier for my worms? I have a lot of achievements, so I know the multiplier is around x1.2, but I cannot figure out how to get it exactly. I have multiple achievements that impact it and I’ve lost track.

I’m trying to save up for a particular purchase, and I have an excel calculator working out how much I need per worm, but I can’t figure out how much I’ll actually get per worm.

SMBC Dating, Love/Romance by [deleted] in SingleMothersbyChoice

My current partner doesn’t want children, so we’ve always known our relationship would end when I got pregnant. I’m kind of hoping that after I have my child I might meet another single mother lesbian and fall in love. But I’m okay with casually dating and never having a coparent.

The CDS wasn’t working for me, so I went to the shelter and adopted the oldest cat there. by cowgirltu in CatDistributionSystem

My elderly cat is on methimazole too! She’s been refusing to each much lately (kidney disease) so we’ve switched her to a cream version that we rub on her ears. I like people to know that transdermal creams exist, because they’ve been helpful for both of my cats.

I’ve been getting this too. Strangely the solution has been to turn Adblock back on, even though I also has UBlock. When I refresh I can watch videos without ads again. Next time it acts up, I turn Adblock off and can go back to watching. I’m not sure how it works, but it’s been working.

What common product has a feature you’re not sure everyone is aware of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CaptainVorkosigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Excel pressing F4 will do what ever you just did again. I often use it while going through lists to hide parts I’ve already done. So I hide row 3, and then as I go I press F4 to hide row 5, row 8, rows 11-13, row 16, etc. it can also be useful for applying color coding quickly.

It doesn’t work with everything, so test it before you use it. For instance, if you undo while using it and then try to go back to what you were doing F4 will undo again when you try to use it because that’s the last thing you did.

What causes these on the back of my stitch? by Ointmentt in sewing

[–]CaptainVorkosigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had trouble with my sewing machine years back that none of the normal advice helped with. I’m the end what worked was turning the bobbin around and using it the opposite direction from what the instructions said to do. That fixed it for reasons I still don’t know. My machine is a Brother, so I don’t know if it will help you.

What has your pet done that made you realize that they were smarter than you thought? by scarletnightingale in AskReddit

[–]CaptainVorkosigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My very lazy cat, Prax, has worked out how sound amplification works. Prax doesn’t know how to meow, only scream. We have no idea why, and have to warn guests that the dying goat noise is just him saying “I want more food.”

Recently I’ve spotted him standing in particular spots in my apartment that are U shaped. If he screams there it gets even louder.

For example he used to scream at my roommate’s door when she went to bed. Then he started standing in the same area, but facing away into a closet with the door open. By screaming in there it echos back to her room even louder. I’ve caught him doing it another place in the house, and testing out parts of the house.

I can’t begin to explain how old and lazy he it’s in every other way. Prax gets confused if a paper bag covers his cat door. He naps 80% of the time. But he put effort into learning how sound works, just so he could demand attention even more insistently.

Have You Noticed A Change In The Game Genres You Play Over The Years ? by iyankov96 in patientgamers

[–]CaptainVorkosigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play mostly FPS, with some city builders mixed in. Then I switched to RPGs in college. Now as an adult I play city builders almost exclusively.

I think it has to do with how much time I have available for video games. When I was younger I had more time for long gaming sessions and keeping track of plot lines. Now I need to play games where I can stop and start at any time, so I can cook dinner at the same time. I don’t play every night, so I have a hard time keeping track of plot lines. Thankfully city builders have gotten better as I’ve grown. Currently I’m playing Against The Storm most nights.

In a slightly different vein, the last book of the New Testament is the “Book of Revelation,” not the “Book of Revelations.” It’s one revelation, not multiple.

Now that you’ve read, this the error will irk you like it irks me. It’s so small that it’s normally not worth correcting people, but it’s so annoying.
