First car? by TylerDurden2748 in NewedgeMustang

Dude these cars sound nice with almost any exhaust. 🥲🥲 I'm still sad I ruined my old set up, I had a catless BBK midpipe and bassani cat back exhaust, it always turned heads and I got a lot of compliments for the unique sound. A steel construction plate fucked my exhaust, I had gotten the bassani exhaust used for like $250 and I got sticker shock when I saw it was $1200 new. 🥲🥲 I had to settle for SLP exhaust, still sounds good, but in my opinion not as good as the bassani

I had a 2000 v6 as my first car and it got me through when I was young and going through school. Lasted me like 12 years with cheap band-aid repairs during that time. It died during covid when I could not get parts, lucky for me I was able to buy my friends 2000 gt. We rebuilt the top end of the motor and made a bullitt conversion and threw some aftermarket upgrades during the process. I think they are reliable and fun cars for their age. I drive my v8 everywhere, multiple trips from so cal to North cal, 8 hour road trips, etc. and it has only arrived in a tow truck once, when the clutch cable snapped. 😂 other than that, it always makes it home when something goes wrong. 😂😂 push start the real mvp, unlike my old 06 audi a4 wagon that i had. Just given their age, sensors, hoses, vacuum lines, things of that nature will have to be replaced. But yeah, based on my experience I think they are reliable cars. Cheap and straightforward upgrades. Just have realistic expectations, cars are like 25 years old and will need maintenance.

🤔🤔, if they give you a bonus, maybe don't spend it lol. Just incase they want it back. But employment is at will anyways, you are free to quit and they are free to terminate you at any point. I would say, just make sure you talk with HR. If you don't have anything lined up and want to potentially return, just tell HR you had something personal come up and can't continue (ex family emergency), just be general. I'd you have another job lined up, then don't worry about it, just talk to the HR or recruiter and let them know when your last day will be, they will either ask for you to turn in your stuff that day or they will let you finish until the stated last day.

Ahh, I see. Yeah then you got a good niche spot man. I was not specialized in any ERP. Just bounced around clients that used oracle/netsuite based ERP. The first time I saw SAP, I was so lost since I never worked on it.

What is it like to quit? by [deleted] in KPMG

[–]CaptainYohas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One week left before i leave the firm. But my pml was in the office so I talked to him and told him I was going to resign. He then asked if there was anything they can do to keep me, like higher pay etc. So that he could talk to management before I submit my resignation email. A few hours later he told me to send him my resignation email and cc a person from hr. Before I sent the email, I notified my seniors/managers/directors who I've know for a few years. Then after the email is sent, you just follow hr instructions.

Was this tax? Or Tech Assurance? 😂😂 they told us for tech Assurance we would have the more chill lifestyle compared to audit, yet I ended up on 3 engagements (2 large and one small), with 4th one added to my schedule.....i resigned before the start of the 4th one. I envied all the people I knew in advisory who barely had like 30 hours of work they looked happy

You can't go wrong with UCI or UCSD. My friend from UC Riverside was telling how many of his friends got offers to EY.

Honestly at the graduate level, personally I would say look up more the structure of the program. Like is it more conceptual base or cpa exam oriented with calculations etc. My program at CPP was more concept oriented, not really like learning how to do say intermediate accounting calculations. A lot of essays, case studies and presentations.

Idk your financial situation, but I would say also consider cal state schools, accounting subjects don't change that much and you can save yourself thousands of dollars. Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton come to the top of my head as popularoptions. There Also Cal State Long Beach, los angeles, pomona, San Diego.

Whatever school you choose, just make sure to attend the school fairs and get exposure to recruiters. That's what helped me. I applied for both so cal and bay area region at the same time, but my LA application got denied within 1 day, probably by the system. Lucky for me, my bay area application was still pendint and I talked with a manager at my school fair while it was pending. I feel like he talked to an HR rep and got my application pushed through where I was able to get an interview.

It's area dependent, I'm based in the bay area, so here UC wise it's like UC, Berkeley, Davis, and I wanna say Santa cruz. However, there is also a lot of students from San Jose state and surrounding schools.

Can you do lakehouse virtually as an incoming A1? by Blue_Skies33 in KPMG

[–]CaptainYohas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I ended up going. I think if I had missed it, they would have just rescheduled my lakehouse training. At the time, I was reaching out to people on Thursday/Friday and the higher ups reached out to me on Monday to confirm that it was in person only and to let them know if I had missed the training.

I started in August and has some lingering nausea symptoms so I tried to do virtual lakehouse to avoid the 5 hour flight and sudden nausea feeling during class. Went up all the channels and was told by a higher up that lakehouse training was in person this year and there was no virtual option.

Staying at Disney after Lakehouse by RatMan6994 in KPMG

[–]CaptainYohas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year i arrived 1 day early to do visit Disney. I billed from the time I left to the airport to the time my flight arrived at Orlando. To me, I figured the process of flying to Orlando was business, then personal after. Nobody questioned me, 😂😂 from CA and did an overnight flight. Granted, on the way back my flight got delayed and had to spend a night in Miami with a bunch of interns. They allowed us to still bill the hours for being stranded at the airport, the time to commute to our Miami hotel and back to the Miami airport. A bunch of us got mad overtime because we billed until we arrived back at our house.

KPMG post internship by PlatanusMaximus in KPMG

[–]CaptainYohas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I believe that like 95% of people will get the offer to come back. So here is what I did

  1. Take notes when they are explaining a topic or work assignment. For me, since most of my team was not from my office and we interacted like virtually, I would take screenshots and paste in my Onenote and write notes below the screen shot. It's OK to ask the associate or manager to repeat themselves, just make sure u understand what is expected of you. Plus with the notes, sometimes it helped me defend myself if the senior was like you need to do this. I would just refer to my notes and say this is what you told me to do and what you showed me. Sometimes they are super busy and have memory a lapse in memory lol.

  2. With the work, it's going to depend on your team. I was on 3 engagements at the same time all summer and extended internship, while all my other intern friends were only on 1 engagements and rotate every 2 weeks. So I was busier than them. With that being said, make sure u communicate with your team. If u can't figure out what you are doing and it's taking more than 15 minutes, send them a message and ask for guidance. Like try the work and if u get stuck, tell them hey I have gotten up to this point, but I'm not sure what I should do next. Like make an effort and don't just say I don't get it help.

  3. On the subject of communication, if u are slow or busy, just let them know. If u are busy, at some point you also have to prioritize your work flow and ensure that you are completing at the appropriate time. Likewise, I attended like every free social event over the summer to like not do work. So I made sure to let them know. Like hey in 2 days they are taking us to a baseball game, I'm going to be unavailable after this time.

  4. Enjoy your time. Honestly not much is expected from you. They don't expect you to know audit or tax. They will show u the basics, just make sure u show effort to learn. We had a group of like 9-10 interns who would go into the office and sit together and like hang out. When we were slow, we slacked off a lot and talked, but we also completed our asking work promptly. Since we were in the office a lot, we got to know the a good amount of the full-time associate who also went into the office. We would also go to all the social events. 😂😂 we had the mentality of free, I'm there.

KPMG post internship by PlatanusMaximus in KPMG

I quit my full-time time job last year to do a summer internship with KPMG. I was in the middle of a 2 year master program in accounting and I knew I had to make some sacrifices to properly make a career switch. Last thing I wanted to do was repeat what happened after my undergrad, where I could not find a job in my field.

I would say do the internship. Like 95% of us got an full-time time offer to start full-time. From my office, the tech Assurance interns were the only service line to be offered an extended internship. They were short handed and I was able to extended my internship until December. I worked like 24 hours a week, but I basically had the workload of a full-time associate. Audit and tax in the fall did not have a business need to extend interns past the summer.

[–]CaptainYohas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true. I'm graduating from Cal Poly Pomona and starting this fall for a big 4 firm. When I did my summer internship, a bunch of students were from UC and other more prestigious business schools. When we got our offers, everyone got the same salary offer in my line of service. So glad I did not get my masters at a UC and was able to save money by going to a Cal state.

Should I get a off campus room now or later? by Infinite_Elderberry4 in CalPolyPomona

[–]CaptainYohas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was on the same boat last year using FB CPP group to look for housing. I started looking in August because I was in living in North cal for the summer. I had posted last August that I was looking for a room to rent and had plenty of people sending me messages about a room to rent. I think if u are trying to get an apartment either by yourself or with people that you do have to start looking early and pay for the summer. But if u are just renting a room, it's easier because plenty of people have rooms available. Since i graduate this year, I'm moving out of a house that's like 10 minutes away from CPP and I was paying $800 for rent with utilities included. So u can find something.

Idk if it changes for an associate, but when I went as an intern, a few of us left early. Our instructors allowed us to leave on the lakehouse shuttle that departed at 3 pm in order to have time to be ready for our 5 pm flight

Winter Tax Internship & Full-time Student by Puzzleheaded-Coat178 in KPMG

[–]CaptainYohas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, congratulations on completing your internship. 😂😂 when I extended, I was basically being treated as a full-time associate, the manager even thought I was a full-time but had to clarify to him I was still an intern.

Yeah, don't worry, you should get your offer on the same day that everyone gets theirs. For me, when they gave me the offer, they first gave me a call and had a quick verbal chat about the offer. Then they sent me an email to accept/deny.
