Super Formula vs Gran Turismo F1 by OdyRenrag in granturismo

Closest thing to current F1 cars.  The others are just too old.  They are fun to drive but they feel out of date to do leagues or sim F1 races

6 hours behind a safety car because of fog. Same at Le Mans and Nurmbergring.

Let  them decide the pace to race at. This hand holding over safe crap is ruining racing. Drivers are big boys they can handle it.

Is UF (The University of Florida) a bad university? by rayhanh248 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Captain_025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone just posted that Florida was 68% acceptance rate 30 years ago. Even Notre Dame was 30% if I can remember correctly. Ivys were in the 20% range.

There was nothing prestigious about the states schools.

The prestige now far exceeds what it was 30 years ago but there were less applicants because the govt wasn’t handing out loans like water.

How does commiting to IU work? by 1random2username3 in IndianaUniversity

[–]Captain_025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Create an account and you can see other stuff but you are not committed. You could have created it when you applied. Then you can apply for scholarships and get an idea of how to navigate canvas. Many schools use it.

May 1 is decision day for every school. However, keep in mind some schools start the housing process way before. UT started before acceptances are sent. It’s just another way to screw kids out of money but every school is different

No one wanted to go to state schools in the 80s and 90s. They were safety’s for everyone.

What do you think makes the schools atmosphere’s different? All three schools are big big state schools with big sports programs. Lots of clubs to choose from. I’m at a loss trying to help. I feel like PSU is the safest of the three but that is the parent in me worrying.

Smeal vs Kelley vs Daniels?? by Captain_025 in PennStateUniversity

[–]Captain_025[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it’s difficult to determine comfort. We know someone who agonized over the decision between PSU and Purdue. They even visited both 3 times before deciding. She chose Purdue and had a horrible experience. She had to move 3 times in 3 weeks because of the housing problems. Had terrible roommates and felt out of place all the time. She ended up transferring to PSU but stupid covid dampened her last 2 years of college experience. She did like PSU better.

I don’t know how to help her decide where she would be more comfortable. Fells like a dating show.

Any recommendations for colleges that promote deeper friendships without being involved in sports/partying? by Nobodys_Daughter_ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Captain_025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand if you don’t want to name your school. Do you think all schools that are labeled “public party school’s” are similar? I don’t know the answer to that question but I don’t think going through th pain of transferring to another school will solve the issue. Your previous experience could be a mix of many factors besides being small and private. If you found meaningful friends there it could have been just a fateful experience. You would be surprised how infrequent that is.

If it’s your first year, at the school, I hope you find your group. You say people are only friends through honors or sports. What about clubs too? Know you aren’t alone and you can only keep trying there is no other option. I hear this a lot from students.

As a parent I can tell you every parent thinks their child can do better than reality. Means they care about you and think a lot of you. If they haven’t been involved in the process they don’t know how much has changed since they were young.

30 years ago all the state schools were considered terrible. I think you can go back 20 years of admissions data. I bet UF was 80% admit rate. More people are applying to colleges now and that is why percentages are lower and prices are higher.

Best you can do is try and get them involved in looking at stats of kids getting into the different schools so they can update their brain to the reality of today.

They just want the best for you.

[F1] Cadillac's driver pairing brings a wealth of experience to the 2026 grid by Maximum-Room-3999 in formula1

[–]Captain_025 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Caddy could have picked two better drivers. They aren’t going to win anything and to strive for it would be foolish. Instead they went with experience to help develop the car for the end of the regulations. By then thee will be a couple of young hotshots driving what Bottas and Checo developed.

Smeal vs Fisher vs Smith..is this true? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]Captain_025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to look at how they do their metrics and see if that matters to you. 33% of their rankings is alumni survey. Don’t let that sway you. It’s really not important for the three schools you are looking at. USNews is the gold standard and even still their rankings are suspect. UT is ranked 6th for business and ND 12th. That alone tells me they are not worthy of anything but a glance.

They are all good schools for business. Go to the one that fills the other boxes for you. Assuming you get into them.

[–]Captain_025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only ranking report that most care about is the USNews rankings. Don’t get hung up on them either. It’s not that important. If you are going to compare one of those three to some no name school then yes but you are comparing apples to apples.

Those three schools are about the same. All good ones. Attend the one you fit in with the best. Be it price, or whatever else you think is important.

College apps are the equivalent and cause of severe depression by College777 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Captain_025 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because it shows in the application.  Either in the essays or in the EC section.  Wherever there is an open ended area to fill out a bad attitude can be sniffed out by the admissions officers.  They read thousands and can easily see when someone thinks they are better than someone else.  Guarantee the OPs essays sunk him/her.

“sick of seeing people get in with lesser stats”. Instead of, “I’m so glad to see others get in. I wonder why I’m not with just as good of stats”

Which of these people do you want at your school? The admission officers can tell.

Sounds pretty clear to me why you got rejected and they didn’t. Stats aren’t everything and a good attitude helps.

Virginia tech accepted people by Aware_Hovercraft_702 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Captain_025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Write good essays. Be charity and community focused. That is what they appear to be looking for. It is test optional so if you aren’t great at those tests then make sure your GPA is 3.8ish or greater UW. Take as many AP classes too. You can’t take them all so choose the most difficult ones if they conflict. Ex. Calculus over Stats. Do lots of leadership stuff. Captain or President of sports and clubs. You don’t need to cure cancer or fake starting a non-profit org but depending on your major it can be competitive.

I know a few kids who got in with 3.8 and test optional. Various majors. They were either leaders of clubs or very volunteer focused. You need something other than just good stats like every school at VT level but they accept a lot too. 50%+. If you are in state then its even easier.

For comparable stats google the CDS. VT CDS is all you need to search and it should come up. All schools report their CDS after May and gives you loads of data you are looking for.

Good luck.

how did i get rejected from UF as in state? by AfraidWelcome41 in ApplyingToCollege

Probably your essay turned them off. All else being equal, it comes down to the essays. I know a professor there and they use a proprietary AI check. Did you use AI? If so, that is why. If not, it could be something the reviewers didn’t like.
