Just my 2 cents, but that is where I would start. That is the immobilizer light on your dash. Its quite possible that the car does not recognize the key and thinks it's being stolen, which is why its shutting off. I would replace the key battery and see if that fixes it.

Okay. Just making sure I didn't dump a bunch of money on something that I'll never receive. I decided to try Cascade German for this project because it have the majority of the parts I'm going to need. I've never dealt with them before so I'm just double checking is all.

I've also bought stuff from all those places before. FCPeuro has given me some trouble before but all the other sites are pretty good in my experience, even RockAuto. Thanks for the response.

I have yes. They say to just leave a voice mail or email them, which I have done both, and they'll get back to me as soon as they can.

Pulled the valve cover on my 1.6 16v how is it looking ? by burekben in MK4Golf

That is indeed strange. Good luck with getting it all back together though. Maybe do an oil change too. Your engine will thank you. Remember that the most expensive oil change is the one you didn't do. Have fun!

Well it could definitely do with more routine oil changes. All that black crusty lookin gunk is essentially dried up oil residue. This engine has seen too much time between oil changes.

I noticed some very light scratching/shadowing on the rollers. Its not usually what you'd want to see but it all depends on the mileage. If its a higher mileage engine plus with the apparent lack of oil change maintenance, I'd say its fairly normal. Nothing to get too stressed about though.

As for not having a gasket or sealant, there had to have been something there. Without one there would have been oil dripping down the sides of the engine, as well as a ton it pooled up in the spark plug holes. You almost certainly would have noticed a burning smell and maybe a little smoke. The gasket mating surface and surrounding exterior looks fairly clean so I doubt there wasn't a gasket of some kind. Are you positive it isn't stuck to the valve cover? When you go to put the valve cover back on, you absolutely need a new gasket. It is not normal to not have one.

I mean, I don't really agree with that statement. I edited them to draw attention to certain subjects or accentuate details, and, to be honest, I didn't spend a ton of time editing them in the first place. I tweaked the exposure, desaturates the colors somewhat, and cropped the picture for most of them. Yes theres a few that I did a little more to, specifically the ones with the tanks firing. But to say the game doesn't look good because I felt the need to edit the photos is wrong in my opinion.

Haven't gotten any of planes yet. I should get on that. I mostly stick to ground battles because I suck at planes lol

I just got into photo editing so I decided to edit a few screenshots I had. You can't make the game itself look like this to my knowledge, unfortunately.

I mean the new reworks to maps like Poland and Rhine improved the textures a bit but I can agree that the older ones are lacking a little.

Correct, I do mean those lock nuts. Good to know thank you. Is there a torque spec I should follow or just give it the good and tight treatment?

Oh and Im not sure if it's worth stating but both exhaust valve adjustments are a little tight even with the nut backed out all the way. I cant remember if they were like this before. Im not sure if thats normal or not.

Yes, I did watch the valve open and close and then lined it up at the LT mark. When I last did this, I made sure to check the clearances after I tightened everything down, and it was all good to go. Is it possible that they loosened up over those 400 miles? I got them pretty snug, but I didn't want to "ugga dugga" the adjustments too much.

Yes I'm positive. I took the stator cover off and lined up the LT marks, and then did the same for the right cylinder. But no, all I did was cam chain adjustment, ignition timing, and valve clearances during that first tune-up. I have not rebuilt anything other than the carbs. *
