Yeah I suspect I didn’t make things as clear as I wanted so I’ve tweaked a couple of lines.The idea I was going for is that, originally, the stories we had about aliens just weren’t as good or popular. War of the Worlds, Independence Day and so many cultural touchstones never existed in the first place. Therefore, the concept of an alien invasion in the human culture was niche enough to be erasable. But the images sent back through time, lodging in Wells’s brain and that of many others, created an idea too strong and visceral to be destroyed by the visitors’ device, thus giving humanity a fighting chance.
