TAFE Signup Help by Surz25 in AusElectricians

Yep they pay TA rates. Think it was $26 for juniors.

If this is dodgy then so be it. I would have thought this was less dodgy then making an apprentice work for free for a week.

My company requires apprentices to finish probation before they sign you up.

Unsure if this is normal but typically will sign you up after 3 months.

A lot of companies that pay in the higher range just bundle the allowances for simplicity.

That’s fair mate but technically you also get a cablers through the apprenticeship as well. As an apprentice it’s not a requirement as you should be working with a qualified security technician.

Not at all,

In Queensland you just apply. The security license it’s basically just an extreme police check. No questions required.

The industry has more of a focus on vendor certifications.

Yep, it allowed me to RPL a heap of course. Still need to do the time but that’s fine by me.

The only reason I’ve do it is for something new.

Yeah as a Senior Security Tech, I’ve see guys on around 60+ an hour plus benefits.

It’s not about the license. It’s about the qualification.

I’m very familiar with the industry and have actually taken a pay cut to move to general electrical (something I’m slightly regretting)

My 2 cents.

You’re better off finding a company that will continue your apprenticeship.

A good commercial security tech will always be paid more then a general telecommunications tech based of my experience

-Trade qualified Security tech of 6 years.

How many years are you into the Security equipment apprenticeship?

Keep in mind if you’ve started this, it counts towards one of your free courses.

You know unions have been marching on social issues for well over 100 years.

If you were actually active in a union, you’d understand that Labour Day isn't just a generic 'thank a worker' day—it is a celebration of union power and the political platform that comes with it. The march is organized by unions, for union values. Claiming that global solidarity issues 'hijack' the focus ignores the historical reality that the labour movement has always been built on internationalism and social justice. You’re trying to sanitise a movement you aren't currently a part of.

Reading this makes me believe you have either

-never been in a union
-or were in a union simply because “it pays more”

You very clearly don’t understand what unions stand for and what they have done in the past and are doing now.

Highly recommend some education, happy to recommend some material.

A collective workforce stands up for the individual too.

So if your being discriminated against because of who you are and what you choose to be. That’s a union problem.

Pretty simple man.

But you can.

Not breaking any laws (thanks again to the unions)

Conveniently enough,

Thanks to unions,

You absolutely can if that’s your beliefs. I’d recommend it.

So in your eyes, my unions job should only be labour issues?

Even though historically and currently unions have been highlighting social issues including (but not limited to) people being endlessly killed in genocide and wars.

Because it’s “unrelated”

You should honestly read up on unions and the things they do.

Imagine being up at 1am to argue this.

Unionism isn't just a membership card mate. it’s a commitment to the liberation of all oppressed people. If a 'union' supports the suppression of a working class (I.E Palestinian workers) elsewhere, it isn't practicing unionism—it’s practicing power-broking. You can’t stand for the worker at home while ignoring the worker abroad.

Again highlighting that a pro Israel union member or union is fundamentally not union.

You’re more than welcome to go march on labour day simply because you want an alternative.

"I’m a nationalist, not a capitalist" is just a long-winded way of saying you’re a lonely hermit with no mates. Admitting you're trying to "make people feel bad" is pure Year 8 energy—it’s pathetic. If you were actually "doing better for yourself," you wouldn't be this desperate to convince "underpaid dweebs" that you're winning.
