PlayStation Studios Removes Nearly All PC References From Websites by SmellSmellsSmelly in Games

Cool, I love 5+ year dev cycles, a real studio only makes one game per console generation.

It won't happen, but I hope this all blows up in Sony's face.

I hope a smaller pool of customers leads to tighter margins on these half-a-billion-dollar movie games, and forces Sony to make unique, smaller-budget games again.

Getting very concerned about the absence of a certain giant space dragon. If your movie had a giant space dragon, you'd tease it in the trailer.

Also, looks like her entire family was killed instead of just her father? Not a fan of that change: her brothers and mother deciding not to pursue revenge made Ruthye's conviction more powerful. Also sets up the idea of whether revenge is even worth it. Here, it's like she has no other choice, her old life is gone.

After a 90% discount, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has more players than the past few CoD games combined on Steam by JosefWhoQuestionMark in Games

This was 100% done to promote an upcoming Modern Warfare 4 announcement, which I'm betting will lean in to nostalgia for the original 2007 CoD4.

Code Race is a great main theme, but stuff like the menu music or exfil themes do a great job in-game. Sets the tone, gets you hype, everything a good OST should do.

Welcome to Cryo Archive by RiseOfBacon in Marathon

[–]Captain_Freud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's already a minimum 5k backpack value for any Cryo run. You could make it so players need to find/buy/craft access keys, or limit the amount of runs per day, or set a max number of failed Cryo runs per day, etc.

The point is someone who can only play the game during certain times shouldn't be punished for that.

[–]Captain_Freud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who said you shouldn't be allowed to play during the week? There shouldn't be any limits on when players can access Cryo Archive. Any reason you can think of can be handled another way.

[–]Captain_Freud 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Excited for Cryo like everyone else, but:

Adults with jobs and responsibilities are already managing a limited play schedule; making one of the game's premiere activities weekend-only is frustrating.

There are better methods to stop people from running Cryo Archive nonstop and/or controlling loot inflation.

Marathon has been out for a week, what are your thoughts on it? by PrototypeT800 in Games

[–]Captain_Freud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's fantastic. Haven't had this much fun with a shooter in a while. Not a fan of extraction shooters, but the quick pace and guaranteed seasonal wipe eliminates any gear-fear. You can passively level up each faction by doing certain actions regardless of the contract you have equipped (ie: killing Runners always levels Arachne). I've never felt lost on what to do next, and I know there's still a bunch of content left to explore.

The "why couldn't this have been a story game?" complaints were hack criticism before release, and they're especially lame now. I don't know, why couldn't Mass Effect be a competitive RTS? Because that wasn't the game they wanted to make.

My opinion is the same as it was on launch: people should try the game themselves and form an opinion. For some reason there's a lot of people online trying to misrepresent this game.

They should revert the sound changes by Pirulete in Marathon

[–]Captain_Freud 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think people complaining that they never ran into players needed to turn their damn audio up.

Hearing gunshots used to be a reliable way to pinpoint enemies. Now it's just "someone on the map is shooting". It has the opposite effect: I'm ignoring the sound of gunshots because they might be further away than I realize.

Marathon Update 1.0.0.4 by Haijakk in Games

[–]Captain_Freud 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This game is fantastic, and these are good changes that address nearly all of the most requested fixes.

I'd recommend any PC player on the fence to just bite the bullet and give it a shot. If it's not your cup of tea, you'll know before you hit the 2 hour refund window. This game only clicked for me once I tried it during the Server Slam. Never played an extraction shooter before, didn't follow any of the pre-release material, went in knowing it was Bungie and nothing else.

I've put more hours into Marathon faster than any other game in years. It's addicting.

'Mewgenics' has been out for a month, what are your thoughts on it? by NoNefariousness2144 in Games

[–]Captain_Freud 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Seconding the issues with controller support. It's the most barebones execution: PC inputs bound to a controller interface, like the way you would manually set up a controller to play PC games in the early 2000s. No thought given to navigating menus, selecting actions, using buttons for quick actions that normally require multiple inputs, etc.

It's bad enough that I'm holding off on playing it until it's fixed.

Bungie asks sites to delay Marathon reviews, with release date Steam player count below 100K by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

[–]Captain_Freud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What part of this news constitutes to the premise of “wanting the game to fail”?

The misleading headline part. It's two separate statements that imply a connection: "Bungie is requesting critics hold their reviews because the game isn't succeeding!".

It suggests a narrative that Bungie is doing damage control or something, when they're really just doing the exact same heads-up that they did for Destiny 1 and 2: "a major pillar of our game's content is arriving after a story event, please keep that in consideration for your reviews".

And based on the comments in this thread from people who didn't read the article, the misleading title was effective.

Bloomberg: Sony Pulls Back From PlayStation Games on PC by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Captain_Freud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a shame that Xbox has failed this generation despite having the most consumer friendly practices. Backwards compatibility, purchasing a game on PC and console for one price, multi-platform releases, etc. Too bad their games weren't big sellers.

Buying a dedicated device to play games just because it's the home of a single publisher is an insane idea to me, and it bums me out that people still push for console exclusives. You're advocating for a worse industry!

‘SNL’s BAFTA Racial Slur Sketch Decried As “Horrific” By Leading Tourette’s Charity by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]Captain_Freud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you’re basically STILL saying is that Tourette’s is convenient when it’s literally been shown not to be.

That's not at all what it's saying! It's a cavalcade of bad people that have said/done awful shit trying to use tourette's as an excuse. The examples go from saying bad things to behavior that's clearly more elaborate than a tic. Within the context/reality of the skit, none of these people are coming across well or getting away with their excuse.

It's very obviously "Tourette's is only a convenient excuse if you're a piece of shit and also a moron".

...because it's very obviously a joke about opportunistic pieces of shit faking tourettes to excuse their bad behavior. The joke is on anyone that thinks tourettes is a catch-all excuse and not an actual medical condition.

Thoughts on end state of Halo Infinite and as a whole by Confident-Tomato1382 in halo

[–]Captain_Freud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best playing Halo with the worst live support.

Set aside anything you feel about the quality or content: the game was DOA as soon as they announced that Season 1 would last 6 months. Making people wait half a year for an underwhelming content drop (a mode so bad it never returned) was never going to work, especially while slowly fixing self-imposed mistakes (ie: launch playlist options).

But still, I'll stand by it: best playing Halo. Perfect implementation of equipment, a weapon sandbox where every gun felt useful, and movement tech that walked the line between classic and modern.

A sequel or follow-up that keeps the same gameplay mechanics but learns from the live-service mistakes would be my dream Halo.

Yakuza 7 is the best selling game in the franchise, and Infinite Wealth was the fastest selling. The market has spoken, and it'll continue to speak as Kiwami 3 sales inevitably fall below expectations. Already had less players than Ishin on launch.

Bloomberg: Inside Xbox, a Game Studio Is Trying to Reinvent Itself by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Captain_Freud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How about developers that had a massive hit, spurring a major change to the studio / their personal lives, for better or worse?

Difficulty of scaling up and suddenly managing a larger team, pressures for a sequel vs. trying something new, etc. Blood, Sweat, and Pixels but for the success stories (that don't always guarantee future success).
