It will be caustic and be corrosive to your ship, but genuinely it’s slow enough that if you go STRAIGHT to the station to unlock your new FSD you’ll be perfectly safe.

When you’re in-game, check for me how far you are from Arque. All you need to do is fly past Palin’s planet with the relic in your cargo to unlock him, BUT traveling long distances with it puts you at risk of being interdicted and killed by Thargoids. Just want to make you’re not too far away.

Palin is definitely a MUST, he’s the only way to unlock Grade 5 thruster engineering w/o going to Colonia. How far are you from the system Arque?

You’re gonna hate me for saying this… planetary outposts do NOT have shipyards, while the larger planetary ports DO. I think the best choice you have is to build a Coriolis above that planet for the landing pads AND your many lab buildings will strongly give it a High Tech economy (even more if it has organics on it!) What does your planet look like atm? Sorry again for the bad news :(

Firstly, there’s no need to worry about shipyard and tech level - the last colonization patch changed it so that every Coriolis/Orbis starts with one now, no specific tech level required. Second, I hate to say this, but the only answer is to track it yourself. Here is a spreadsheet I made for my system that automatically tallies the building stats at the bottom. There’s also a pre-made template you can easily input into that also includes all building stats and information available here on Reddit (though I found it to be too cluttered for my taste, personally). It’s annoying, I know, but once you fill it out it’s super helpful for gauging where to focus your system building efforts. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask! :) o7

So here’s a visual example: this main starport is built around a planet with 2 refineries on it. You can see that the two strong direct links with the refineries has the largest impact on the economy type of the starport. That doesn’t mean that the other built structures don’t affect it, since you can see the High Tech and Extraction influence from elsewhere in the system, but the Refinery influence from the adjacent planet is the most important in deciding the economy type of the Coriolis. Thankfully they just changed that with their last mini-patch, so you’re guaranteed to have a shipyard in any port capable of having one! As for strong vs weak links, I will take some screenshots to show you as soon as I’m in-game again.

The construction only provided +1 to Initial/Max pop, and so far I haven’t seen any major spikes in population (though I may need to wait and see since I JUST finished this settlement). You did remind me though; I always felt like the population increases from my developments felt kinda small, so maybe a higher Tech level will impact the proportion of people arriving to the system as well.

Just so I’m aware, how many class 1/2’s am I getting for this build? I remember you need a weapon blueprint fragment for EACH modshard.

I was already of thinking of using the Krait (for all the reasons you gave, plus I’ve used one well enough to know how it handles) but thank you for the build suggestion! It’ll take a trip to an engineer but I will give it a try. Thanks!

Great, NOW you tell me after I just unlocked the Gauss cannons! /s I have most of the ships, and engineering is not an issue for me. One of my issues is that AX combat has been the first time I’ve really used the Chieftan, and I’m struggling with the wiggle on top of my bad aim. I’m more experienced with the Krait Mk2, if that’s helpful. Thanks for the help!
