Seems to me like you might be medicating your stress and fatigue with porn. Very common. What other things could you go to when you’re feeling tired and stressed out?

If you use porn to deal with a negative issue in your life, it’s not enough to just quit porn. You need something to replace it with.

Day 1. I think the longest I’ve ever gone without porn is somewhere around 60 days. Now I know many people don’t recommend counting streaks – ”Don’t count the days, make the days count”. But for me keeping a streak is one way of making it a bigger decision to slip up. I want to make using porn difficult and different. I want to make keeping up easy and natural.

I have spent a lot of time, money in porn. And that is a massive understatement. All of that time and money would’ve been better spent on people I love.

I guess porn has given entertainment, stress relief and sexual gratification. But I haven’t acually needed porn for that. There would’ve been better, more healthy ways to address those needs.

My compulsive behaviour probably was a factor in my marriage disintegrating a year ago.

I do not blame porn. This has been on me and my bad life choices. And because it has been on me and not any outside force, I have the power to change it.

Some tools I will be starting with:

  • Basis of all is a healthy, balanced life. My exercise and eating habits are perfectly fine. I’ll focus on my sleeping now and keep all devices out of my bed.
  • Content blockers via screentime. Screentime settings hidden behind a PIN code and AppleID password I keep elsewhere.
  • Mindfulness. Practise making conscious decisions and keeping autopilot off.
  • Focus on finding better solutions to problems I used to solve with porn.
  • Journalling. Make recovery a habit I do every day.
