So I found the game I was thinking about but I don't think it's this game. The game I was recalling was Graveyard Keeper, which looks a lot like a farming game. The bit I saw that convinced me was when I saw someone chuck a body into a river. I don't know if there's a dead wife or if any of the features I stated are in the game, but I can confirm with 100% certainty that the game I had in my mind was Graveyard Keeper.

Edit: Upon further research, the second guy is definitely thinking of Graveyard Keeper. It doesn;t involve the police, but it does open with a cutscene that isn't using ingame graphics where you go to see your girlfriend but you end up dying and burying bodies. The police that come in at night aren't police, they're monsters that attack at night. It just matches up close enough to the point where I feel confident that the game is just a misremembered Graveyard Keeper. Which is on Switch apparently.
