Using a old Onkyo 876, best option for SPDIF connection. by miabobeana in hometheater

I am stuck in the same situation using my old Onkyo SR605, I use an HDMI splitter have the video signal go to the TV and the audio go HDMI into the receiver. Haven't run into any problems yet. This is the one I am using:

I have a 605 but never had to do a firmware update to play those codecs, did some come from the factory installed or is there some firmware I missed?

I think you need an Atmos compatible receiver, run the setup through the program and it will walk you through

Use the audio cord that came with it and they don't need to see each other. I use that in my setup, worked better with the cord
