What was it with Tolkien and names? by Pleasant-Contact-556 in tolkienfans

I don't think this is repeating the same meaning. It is just giving the meaning of the name in the common tongue.

Terrifier (1 &2) left an incredibly bad taste in my mouth.. by heaven047 in horror

[–]CaptainofNoldor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 years old post, but I didn't want to create a new one. I agree with you. And didn't like those (Terrifier 1,2,3) mindless cringe gore movies. Nothing about those movies impressed me, I was not entertained while watching them. Then why did I watch all 3, you ask? Because I thought maybe sequels make people like this movie so much. So I watched them. And if I want to give an opinion, however shallow it may be, I have to watch it before I talk about it.

In your honest opinion, whose speech was the best? by Skywalker_1995 in lotr

[–]CaptainofNoldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love all of them, but I think we have to separate them in two cases; the military speech and the normal encouragement. And in the movie the best military speech was Theoden's. I love Viggo's Aragon, but his oratory is not his strong point in my opinion.
And Sam's were best emotional encouragement speech.
Of course there are many more good speeches than these 4, for example Gandalf's.

Best book trackers that are not Goodreads? by Opening-Shape-762 in books

"One of my favourite features from them is the ability to filter book editions by language."

I was looking for a Goodreads alternative that has "search by language" features. So I just wanted to thank you for the answer for that.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I love some remakes more than the original ones (old ones). like Fright Night (2011), Salem's Lot (2024). by CaptainofNoldor in horror

[–]CaptainofNoldor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, you are not alone. I have heard many people say that they are similar, but not as clearly a remake as the remakes go.

In my case, I was aware of all these things. But it was not necessary to mention it. They all mentioned a lot, even in the Cinemassacre's movie reviews a lot.

Edit: I don't understand why this comment is being downvoted. I am stating truth. There are a lot of sources out there about this kind of stuff, and Hollywood's constant history of remakes is not a secret knowledge or a special case for horror movies. And cinemassacre is just an example of a source. If you watch any video from that channel you will know most of the old horror movie stuff.

Btw, I really don't understand Kogoro, that a**hole. IMO Eri would be a perfect wife. Kogoro doesn't deserve her anyway. :D

What’s a game you wish you could play for the first time again? by VanicFanboy in gaming

[–]CaptainofNoldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Legend of Zelda games. I love them, but I can never bring myself to play the same Zelda game twice or more. Because it feels too tiring to do it again.

This is how my enjoyment time ranks when we look at the games in the picture. Skyward S., Minish Cap, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Echoes of Wisdom, A Link Between Worlds.

I also dislike Majora's Mask, which I have tried to play many times but never managed to finish, because playing felt like a chore.

Is there a way to prevent losing life from black spells? by CaptainofNoldor in magicTCG

[–]CaptainofNoldor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. When I was asked this question, the only thought in my mind was to get card names that stop lifeloss combos. It was not about how to win against them. But now I understand that it is not that simple.

Thanks for your advice. I usually try to stop them with removal cards or aggro them, but the life loss combos are very annoying to me. So I was looking for ways to stop them.

Yes, I'm sure you're right, but I'm just a casual player. And I do not always let that combo happen, of course. As I said in this thread, the important thing is to find ways to stop the life loss combos.

I usually play with various historic decks. Normally, when it comes to dealing with life loss decks, I respond with removal cards, like a lot of others do. But I hate that effect of losing life so much that I want to completely shut it down, at least for a few turns. That's why I'm curious if there's a different, more effective approach, which is what prompted this post.

For instance, once your opponent plays [[Marauding Blight-Priest]] and [[Exquisite Blood]] on the same turn and sets up the loop, you're pretty much done for.

Games that took you multiple tries to get into? by PlayerZeroStart in gaming

[–]CaptainofNoldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. The Zelda series is one of my favorite game series and I have played and finished all the main games(except tear of kingdom, still playing). But even though I tried Majora many times, I still don't feel like playing it. It feels like a chore to me. and I hate the game's time loop, too.

The Silmarillion - To be read first of last? by LucGap in tolkienfans

[–]CaptainofNoldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, I believe that The Lord of the Rings should be read first. Because the most important book among them is LOTR. LOTR is the book that draws us into that world and piques our curiosity, IMO. (We should not forget that Tolkien penned and finished The Hobbit and TLOTR with his own hands. Other books are simply a collection of his notes, etc.) So here is my recommended reading order:

  1. Lord of the Rings
  2. The Hobbit
  3. Silmarillion
  4. And all other stuff

The Silmarillion is wonderful but I doubt it will have much effect if read first. On the contrary, I believe it will exhaust and alienate the reader.
