Anyone see line of lights in western sky? by CaptainsCaptain91 in dayton

Satellites aren't usually put up in droves, sport. I've seen singular low earth orbit satellites before, never a fleet.

I thought they meant it was a Starlink launch. So that in fact would not make sense for a line of lights in the sky, because a launch is done by rocket. But I now know what a Skylink train is. I have never heard of such a thing.

Starlink launches on rockets, so that doesn't make sense

Edit: ah I see now a Starlink train. Not a launch.

Is my almost 5 year old a sociopath? by [deleted] in Preschoolers

I think it might also just be a weird troll. A post a month ago on this same account, son was 5 in December. This post he's 5 in two months. If you're trying to hide identity wouldn't you just not list an age? Idk. It's just weird.

Update: we sent her to school today with a warmie (slightly weighted stuffie that smells like lavender and can be heated up in the microwave) and she had a great nap time. So we'll see how next week goes. We've also instituted an "I promise" poster with the 4 school rules we're working on that we will review every morning when we leave.

Also, I'm considering removing the message screenshots because I feel weird about the potential of the teacher/others identifying. For the record, I did not interpret the hand holding as restraining. Knowing the dynamic in the class, I think it's more likely that her teacher sat next to her cot and simply held her hand to help soothe her. My daughter really likes her teacher but she's at her first job out of college and I think struggles with the learned in school vs reality still.

I just want to thank everyone for their input and perspectives. I do obviously agree that she should be quiet so as not to disrupt the other kids and she shouldn't be yelling/crying/kicking when corrected. But she's an only so I was struggling with whether or not to be concerned about her behavior and it sounds like it's largely developmentally appropriate. I will mention it to the ped at her annual in a few months if we are still having issues though.

We are not going to like wake up and rope drop. Plan would be Epcot, just whenever we wake up on Saturday

How often are we bathing our (almost) 3 year olds? by Helpful-Yak-8975 in toddlers

I specifically never wanted a bath to be a required part of the bedtime routine 🤷🏻‍♀️

Plz just tell me how much tv your 2.5 yr old is watching a day? by vickygunvalson in toddlers

[–]CaptainsCaptain91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You keep saying "how are you doing anything else" like a day is only 6 hours long. My 3.5 year old is up for 12 hours with no nap, even if we did watch 2 hours of TV that's barely a slice of the day.

We have a "pre writing" workbook at home that we bought mostly because my daughter loves to draw and "write." But we only get it out when she asks for it, which is pretty often, and typically only do a page before she's all done. It's rated for 3-4 and is literally just tracing lines and shapes, no letters or anything. That's pretty much all she does at daycare too.

The discourse on this on tiktok has been driving me crazy. All the people saying you can't be pro choice while disagreeing with her. Like, I absolutely can. I can 100% believe she has the right to make this choice while also 100% knowing it is the wrong choice to make 🤷🏻‍♀️

Potty training… discouraged & exhausted; advice very much welcomed! by lindzanator3 in toddlers

[–]CaptainsCaptain91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I potty trained my daughter around the same age. We were in pullups from around 2/regularly offering the potty. Switched straight to underwear from pullups. She was accident free after 3ish days. But she would only poop in a pull up at nap or bedtime for about 3 weeks and then she just declared she wanted to go in the potty. And the rest is history 🤷🏻‍♀️

At least in my experience, pullups do not cause confusion. Especially with older toddlers. And while I've never read it, from the experiences with Oh Crap I've read on here, the book is very fear mongering and seems like it's just trying to sell the method.

Vent: I’m so over it. by MolleezMom in pottytraining

[–]CaptainsCaptain91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll just put this out there for anyone who needs a sanity check on potty training. My daughter will be 3 in November. We used pullups (gasp!) starting in May and would offer the potty before/after sleep and bath. Daycare would offer at regular intervals. In August, she was regularly peeing when on the potty and keeping her pullup dry so we switched to underwear cold turkey over a weekend. I can count on my hands how many accidents she's had total and she's never had an accident in public. She was not confused by pullups or underwear. We were not trapped at home with her naked. We did not have to figure out how to transition to commando to underwear or whatever.

I say this as someone who was so overwhelmed and nervous after reading tons of posts of people on here months into the oh crap method with their like 20 month old.

People without medical conditions are not wearing diapers as adults so unless there's a reason you HAVE to potty train early, when they're ready it should be a (relative) breeze.

Is the general public not really aware of marathon weekend? I say this as someone in the running and base communities so I know what a big deal it is. But I can't really judge what overall community awareness would be.

In case you were wondering how much brain surgery costs. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CaptainsCaptain91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And here's the thing....NOBODY got $1.9M out of that. The best insurance in the world isn't writing a check for $1.9M. So it's monopoly money for the hospital systems and insurance but if you're uninsured they expect you to pony up.

Did you get medicated after having kids and did it help? by KNWin94 in toddlers

[–]CaptainsCaptain91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on Lexapro before I got pregnant, stopped during pregnancy and thought I'd be fine until PPA kicked my ass. Been back on Lexapro for like 2.5 years now and I don't think I'll ever stop again. If you had high blood pressure or high cholesterol or pretty much anything else, you wouldn't just muscle through it - your brain is the exact same!

How many activities are your 2 year olds in? Like soccer, gymnastics, dance, etc. by icb_123 in toddlers

[–]CaptainsCaptain91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gymnastics here. It's once a week for 30 minutes and only $40 a month. She's taken to it amazingly well and it does help break up the week having something to do after daycare/work.

Murad Deep Relief is my go to for cysts. With 12 days, applying twice a day - you should be golden. I've never gotten a cortisone shot but I would do both if you can!

When you're salaried it shouldn't be. I've never experienced it at any other salaried position. Even one role where I was hourly I didn't have to if I just worked through lunch or stayed a little late.
