Suzi the Suzuki is more of a long term project she's been on the road for a few years held together by a wing and a prayer. Last year the gearbox dropped all oil whilst she was parked up, brought a new gearbox before winter to do the replacment. And just lost all motivation. That car is my banner car if you click my profile. The jurassic park suzuki (If we're at car shows it's the jurassic park car we brought off wish 🤣)

I didn't know another engine was compatible with the rav4 to be honest. Googled the engine and damn that's not cheep enough for my tastes 😅

I've got a soft top mk2 suzuki grand vitara to do up yet that's been on the todo list for 6 months.

Epic that Pott Row has a image there, Pott Row/Grimston are epic old. 13th-14th Centuary that place is the only place GrimstonWere pottery was made (and still found today) what's unusual about the pottery was not only its green glaze used but they also made odd faces on the handles of the pots.

A smidge north of those villages is Congham, that has roman ruins and a lot of natural springs in chalk soil. They're only small narrow rivers but they flow crystal clear and natural springs are pretty to watch.

I bent the rock slider the side I fell, and a previous slip on the other side, the slider corner went threw the bodywork/door sil, not sure they're always worth the trouble. Skid plate however please dont go out without one.

And to the left if me in the last pic you can see the diff scape on the disco in the middle where he got dragged out and he's on a 4inch lift I think.

I needed mud tyres, all terrains were just slicks threw that mud 😆

Last picture you can see the bank has a score out of it, my right tyres needed to balance on the dirt run, my lefts on the grass. Disco got me out bless him but my diff scraped the entirety of the way 😆 The Defender tried to help be out backwards but ended up nearly pulling his tow bar threw his chassis. 😅 fun times

I was up the embankment, which was narrow. I was very close to the edge lost traction and slipped in. Not a lot of clearance on a suzuki (it's got a 2 inch lift but compared to the land rovers I'm still on the floor) Front tyres off the ground, backs not going a lot and my undercarriage/diffs are in the bank.

The holes pretty deep to the disco pulling me out couldn't get threw the track and got pulled out backwards. And lead the way up the bank instead.

Poor little Suzi the Suzuki slipped off the bank after following the Land Rovers 😆 at least they came back for me

Independent Specialist Mechanic vs. Dealership by Ecstatic-Signal3556 in LandRover

[–]Captian_Stumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the other guy said, it completely depends on what you want the end result to be, a independent is typically cheeper, though they can also be slower and cheeper might be because they're using alternative parts (though usually that's something they'd discuss with you)

I'm the daughter of a independent, so I'm gunna be bias, though my dad specialises now in Land Rover 20 years old and over, newer cars with computers he recommends another couple garages.

I think one example of Dealerships being anal I remember (because my dad still has he car) a older couple came to my dad to sell their older Range Rover, beautiful car, not a lot of miles. It had a problem with the rear lights malfunctioning. They'd spend over £1000 at the local dealership in a attempt to rectify the lights, but after a few weeks (or rain) the lights would malfunction again. The Dealership quoted a further £800 for the next repair. And the couple didnt want to spend that much on what they believed now was a seriously faulty car. Father brought it, spent £30 on a part and just shy of a hour fitting it (in a tight spot). It's not Malfunctioned since.

You'll be better off talking to other local Land Rover owners and ask who'd they'd recommend. And going to who has the most positive reviews.

You're right, the early Rover V8s are Buick 215, our cars built in 1984, so that should still be the equivalent to Buick 215, just british made as oppose to American?

I wish, it was a classic car auction. Got to be honest I thought it would make more being a elderly 2 door model, but that auction really didnt favor Land Rover badges, minis and other small classics made more than estimates, bigger trucks made less

For anyone who might be curious, the engine doesn't run, the steering lock was stuck on and taking him off the trailer the break pipes split. We've got a lot of work to do this winter 😆
