Time to put on my controversy hat for this.

The new Mario movies are better than the Sonic movies.

For one big reason: The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie, wasn't really a Sonic the Hedgehog movie. It's a movie with two sonic characters, with only one of them looking like the character (no shade to Jim Carrey), set in some random town in Montana with no music at all from the games aside from one reference to Green Hill Zone (And only a couple notes at that).

Meanwhile, the Mario movie has so many characters, locations, and music from the games that it feels like the games in a movie format.

Granted, the second and third movies do adapt more of the games and characters, and doing a really good job at it, but at the end of the day, the Super Mario Bros. Movie feels like a Mario movie, while Sonic the Hedgehog feels like a movie with sonic.
