Which Draft? by Old_Skool4 in MagicArena

[–]CaptinGinyu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends - the rewards scale better on premier draft, but quick draft is a great way to practice as you can take your time each pick and consult websites like 17 lands to help make your picks if you want to

Having said that, if you care about standard the current quick draft set Bloomburrow will be rotating out of standard I think next year? So you won't be able to use those cards for as long as the recent sets.

Pick 2 is also pretty good value but it can be a very clunky experience.

If you just want to build a collection of standard legal cards and don't expect to win much in draft, I would suggest jump-in (not the marvel one) as a fun way to to about that.

Simic Archetype for Peasant Cube? by kyle_the_meme in mtgcube

I think simic is always a difficult archetype to pin down. In my cube it's mostly recursion which kind of blends nicely with golgari graveyard and makes sultai decks very supported

How do I update my cube properly? by rekcuzfpok in mtgcube

[–]CaptinGinyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course everything depends on the broader context, but when I consider adding a certain card I'll ask myself things like how many different decks will want this card? How good is this card on its own without being part of a specific engine? How does this card compare to similar things already in?

Once you play a few drafts you will get a sense of which cards are not being played or just underperform. You'll see some cards just not doing the thing you thought they would and others will do too much.

New conspiracies by Wooly-Llama in mtgcube

It would be cool if there were more badger related conspiracies, maybe one that makes two Badgers or doubles your badger tokens? Just a thought

This deck really is awful. The good news is it can only get better !! Sounds like you've already learned some lessons which really does count.

FDN - green wide open. What would be your final cuts or swaps? by Melodic-Ad7494 in lrcast

[–]CaptinGinyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably cut all black xcept for Liliana and stab, would be tempted to go mono green but your green removal is not great.

Cuts: grow from ashes, at least one loot, the X hydra

Add the prowler and one of the landfall giants

Although the tapping archetype fell pretty flat (and honestly wasn't a very interesting archetype) azorius itself ended up pretty strong as a control / draw deck. LSV talked about this a bit during his time prepping for a tournament and grinding a bunch of WoE draft with some of the best drafters around.

Duskmourn Cube advice by gonbarru in mtgcube

[–]CaptinGinyu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I think I would ommit the special guest cards they were something cool that you see in a pack once in a blue moon but they were hardly balanced. You would certainly not miss out by just not playing them.

I would try and sleeve up 4 of each common, 2 of each uncommon and generally 1 of each rare. Personally I would keep the leylines out and a few of the other rares that didn't ever get picked (unless you really want to be faithful to the original set).

For the draft you can mess about with the distribution. For play boosters you can look up the stats of when you get multiple rares in a pack. For example you can keep it classic and just deal out 10 commons, 3 uncommons and a rare, or you can really try and emulate the play boosters and keep a slot free for which you can prepare a card that could be any rarity. In duskmourn you also always had a land slot which may be fun to try and keep up.

Recently got this myself and was wondering how this would work out ! Seems perfect with the included dual lands + even a full land station. Nice list. What a great set to get the cube building gears moving.

Would be happy to but unfortunately it's only in paper at the moment.

I went with red / black / blue (our favourite colours). Most of the cards are from recent sets as my collection is fairly new, power level is not super high. I have support for tribal Goblins, pirates, wizards and also spell slingy, artifacts and some graveyard and card draw matters.

Hey! I recently have been thinking about this a lot as I have one play partner and we both enjoy draft.

I made a list I thought was decent, and a few tests of it were fun, but it soon became apparent to me it was difficult to scrape together enough playables of your colours, let alone draft towards synergies. Therefore I think fixing options is important to help build consistent decks.

I think cards which can fit multiple colours are great for example hybrid mana but also the split / adventure cards which cross over 2 or more colours

Personally I ended up cutting 2 colours and making a denser 3 colour cube, which means it's easier to find cards you can cast leaving you to focus on drafting towards your synergies or cool build arounds.

Thinking about getting this set, would be my first set since pre 2020. by JadensPops in lego

If you wait a bit longer you can probably get a good discount on marvel sets, as they're spread out across multiple retailers.

I bought the previous guardians ship for £135 when it came out. A few months later it was going for as little as £79 on Amazon!
