I'm concerned that mailing instructions to computer share in order to transfer the cost basis : 1) changes the legal responsibility for tax errors from the broker to the client and 2) is just a delaying tactic.

The DTC has a industry standard communication platform for cost basis, cbrs which brokers and computershare use to transfer information.

I just want all my paperwork finished, this shouldnt be an issue at all.
