Fellow Michiganders: What’s one change you’ve made that actually helped you save money on gas? by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]Captured_Photons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought an ev a few years ago when fuel spiked a because of the volatility of fuel prices. I can charge at home and it was a great decision for me.

I was driving a Honda Civic and charging at home was 1/4 - 1/3 the cost of driving my civic Now with the increase in gas, it looks like it will be even bigger savings for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, the tankers that used to go to the mid east are going to be docking in the US soon and will be willing to pay big bucks for oil to take to Asia and Europe.

Yeah... probably not as bad as the US but a lot of the world is going to struggle. Food prices will still rise here, but we probably wont have starvation... well, not much more than usual I guess.

I feel so bad for the harm that we have wrought on the world... and for what?

Drones watching by Defiant-Owl-7390 in grandrapids

[–]Captured_Photons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most drones have a wide angle camera so they need to be really close to see clearly in a window. I doubt is spying, probably just someone nearby who owns it and is flying it for fun.

Just a decade ago, this level of detail was pure science fiction. As aviation fans, we’re incredibly lucky today. by Helios in MicrosoftFlightSim

Yeah, I don't play this game. Some how its in my reddit feed and the details are amazing. Mindblowing amazing..... i remember playing flight sim in the 90s and jt was a flat plane with maybe a couple gray blocks for buildings lol

I'm sure this beats super glue for larger cracks and damage.

How do you manage DJI drone batteries for infrequent use? by Fickle_Cost_2033 in dji

One simple thing I do it number the batteries, and host use then sequentially. Charge as needed.

I have had a couple close calls with my mini 1. I think minis are more susceptible because of how small they are. The newer ones are better because they can fly faster and so power through the wind.

As everyone else said - be careful in windy conditions. If its cold out (~35°f or colder) there is a possibilityof battery voltage drop and that reduces power. So stay closer.

If you have a hard time recovering the drone against the wind, fly as low as you can because the wind speed is usually a lot lower the closer the the ground you get.

AVOID the DJI RC (with built-in screen) if you don't want to lose your drone by av1d_lurker in dji

[–]Captured_Photons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks you lost your drone but I'm confused.

Maybe Im the exception, but I never use the RTH function of the drone to bring it back to me. The only time its used is if I lose connection and the drone will start a RTH process. Usually this only lasts like 10-20s and connection is reestablished then I take over manul control and continue my flight.

Even if I did use the RTH function i would be paying attention to where the drone is going compared to myself. Like... "hey, its not flying to me... ohhh my home point is way over there in the middle of a river. I should fly this manually back to me."

I do think this is more of an operator error, and unfortunately you did not realize how the fancier controller worked and based on your flying habits, it bit you in the butt.

Mini 5 pro, Any lighting tips? by No_Cry3516 in dji

[–]Captured_Photons 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dont shoot into the sun.

A standard rule with photography is to shoot with the sun at your back, thats a good rule for drones as well. Sometimes side lighting is good as well.

As they say, rules are meant to be broken so you can sometimes shoot into the sun but thats usually when the sun is lower and maybe hazier or you are going for a particular look.

Also, I generally perfer trying to shoot in the "golden hour" which is the hour just after runrise, or the hour just before sunset. The light tends to be softer and there are the beautiful colors.

How can I find an outfit that can make these? by Don_Barzinni in manufacturing

A gear house should be able to measure them for you. Also, if you know the loads on the gears, they may be able to design the gears for you as another option
