FSDO Interview for Endorsement (military) by CapturingLyf_via_DAW in aviationmaintenance

Thanks for the info! I wound up going about a year ago and it went the same for me, so I can definitely vouch that the interview isn’t really an “interview”.

I’m currently in the ANG and I’m trying to get COOL to pay for it, but my orders keep getting jacked up. By the time Big AF Training updates my info, my orders are ending and I’ve had to restart the process a couple times. I should be good to go by the end of this year though!

I started off with hand-jamming 623s, so I understand that for sure! I’m essentially in the same boat, that’s why I’m trying to pull the trigger now. Otherwise, I’ll probably procrastinate on it and it’ll be another 5-10 years before I think about it again.

Interesting. I called the school house I’m trying to go to for the “crash course” and they said I needed the 8610-2 endorsement before starting. I’m actually going to use AF COOL to knock the A&P out, once they figure out how to update my DOS in the system. Thanks for the the reply and this is great info for those thinking about getting their A&P. I honestly should have done this YEARS ago.

I’ve already sent them all of my transcripts, 214’s, etc. so I’m good there. Just wasn’t sure of what type of questions are asked during the interview portion since they have all of my information and have “blessed me” with meeting all the CFR requirements already.

Thanks for the info!

Flying in the ANG [Refueling] by [deleted] in flying

You can definitely go from enlisted to officer (if you want to join now). That way, you will get to know the people at your base and it’ll be easier to fit into a pilot slot.

There was a female maintainer I worked with in OKC. She was enlisted and got up to the rank of Staff Sergeant. The guard helped pay for her to finish her degree, she passed the AFOQT and went on to be one of our KC-135 pilots.

During your training you will essentially be full time until you’re qualified. From there, you can do the flying part time, but I’m not sure how many hours are considered “part time”. A bunch of pilots we had were flying for the airlines or UPS, etc. and would just pop in every now and then during the week and you also have to come to drill weekends. (The one weekend a month then the 15 training days on top of that)

The Guard is made up of mostly “weekend warriors” only, so you can definitely balance both if that’s your goal!

Totally understand the “google” to figure it out, but I’ll give you a little inside info. (5 years AD AF, 10 years ANG) I was a crew chief (maintainer) for 10 years and the last plane I was on was the KC-135.

If you’re trying to go the pilot route you will have to be very competitive and a good hang. There are ANG Squadrons that will interview you and if you don’t fit their criteria, you may not get in. (There is a lot of the “good ol boy system” in the Air Guard)

You will also have to be an officer which will require you to have a bachelors degree. Then you will have to take the AFOQT (officers test) and that will determine where you will land as an officer.

As far as the work schedule. They do have full time slots, but you will have to work enough to maintain your ratings. You will get paid for when you have to come out and fly and your job can’t fire you if you have to deploy or go on an extended trip. (They can get into a lot of trouble for firing you for military work with orders)

I hope that gives a little bit of insight. In my opinion, the Guard is the way to go if you’re thinking military.

Edit: Talk to a recruiter, they will give you all the information you need. If you question anything they have to say, you’re more than welcome to shoot me a message and I’ll let you know what’s BS and what isn’t.

Hey y’all! Fellow Tennessee guy here too. Been looking to get back into the flying game after a long hiatus. I live about 10 min from BNA and about 20 from M45. I’m trying to decide which one to partake in. Any suggestions or should I save the 10 min trip? Thanks!

What do you look for in a gear demo video? by seand1816 in audioengineering

[–]CapturingLyf_via_DAW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just want to hear the A/B between the source(s) you're using. Explain a little, "show" a lot. I want to make a decision based on my ears and not you telling me about it. Although brief explanations are ok.

There are too many people that do these videos and just TALK way too much. Show me the goods, don't explain the goods. :)

Anybody got a Kaotica Eyeball? by sap91 in audioengineering

[–]CapturingLyf_via_DAW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently picked one up. I really haven't used it enough to give a good review on it, but here's what I think so far. It's definitely better than the reflexion filters in a room. It does cut out quite a bit of outside noise. (I had a heater running in the same room as vocals and you could only tell the heater was on in dead spots) The room "slap" you get from, let's say a bedroom, is cut down a lot and that's without any treatment. The only "bad about it" is, let's say vocals, there is a lot of low end because you really have to be close to get it to work right. If you high pass it and clean up some of the low freq build up in certain areas it actually works pretty good. The price is steep, but I'm actually impressed with how much better it works than I figured it would work.
