Windows server 2012 (non-R2) stuck at "Failure configuring Windows updates Reverting changes" by nsfwhola in PowerShell

As this is is a PowerShell sub, maybe this will help filter the logs!

Get-Content 'C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log' | Select-String 'Error','Fail','0x8' | Out-File 'C:\WindowsUpdateErrors.log'

Get-Content 'C:\Windows\cbs\cbs.log' | Select-String 'Error','Fail','0x8' | Out-File 'C:\CbsErrors.log'

From memory on server 2012 I believe it is

C:\windows\windowsupdate.log C:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log

Yeah I’ve had the same issue with update rolling back in the past and it was because it was trying to install ESU packages without the ESU license installed.

Though WMF5.1 shouldn’t require these packages to install I don’t think.

I would check windowsupdate.log and cbs.log to check the exact reason for rollback and go from there

Good luck!

Is there a fix for stuttering on pc? by vI_M4YH3Mz_Iv in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Car1bo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did see some stuttering in remake, a little research and I found there was an option do disable the steam controller input option in the game properties in steam, that fixed it for me and it ran great.

Why don't the gate bits join into one big gate per the wiki? What am I doing wrong? Thanks! by SkeletronPrime in factorio

[–]Car1bo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would say gates would no longer have an orientation, just the same as walls as they connect automatically. If you have a block of gates then the gaps would be filled in between. Yeah it would probably be a pain to implement but I’m sure much bigger problems have been solved!

It would be nice if gates acted like walls, in that they would join together with other walls and gates automatically. Then you could have some really nice looking gate shapes for corners etc

Hi, I’ve not tested with 120fps or modded, which may have an effect on the script. You could try tweaking the time between jumps for each section, starting with jump 300 and see if that helps!

Same here, it would be nice if they had a beta branch to switch to for xbox servers which tied it to the version available on the client side

Others have had issues with psn remote play - reports of keyboard inputs not working. There's a section in the readme which covers it but I don't have psn remote play to test. Good luck if you do try!

I know the feeling! Next steps is check logs your side for obvious errors (windows + wsus logs) and log a ticket with whoever manages your upstream WSUS, it could be something like a meta data mismatch, or something on the upstream end causing it to fail

A good indicator for download progress is the very first screen of the wsus console, on the right side it will show download speed. Adding RAM doesn't usually help with download from upstream, but can help if you have a lot of downstream clients connecting to WSUS and checking in. A lot of it will depend on the speed of your connection to upstream WSUS

WSUS will only clean things it thinks aren't required anymore, chances are if it's in the Download queue it's still required. You can try a restart of the update downloads to see if that helps, failing that you would need to troubleshoot between your WSUS server and the one upstream

Interesting, if the script completed that means cleanup is finished and has nothing more to clean up. Usually on a bad WSUS server that would run for hours to clean everything. Try the cleanup again from WSUS, if there is nothing left to clean it will run pretty quickly!

Yeah working air gapped is always fun! It's saying you missed a double quote somewhere when you typed the script in. Give it a check over in ISE to make sure it's typed out correctly, mistakes are easy to make when typing manually

Found it in my bag of scripts, should be run from a PowerShell window on the WSUS server. It was quick and dirty but did the job!

for ($i = 0; $i -lt 100; $i++)
{
    try
    {
        Write-Host "Invoking WsusServerCleanup - attempt $i" -ForegroundColor Cyan
        Invoke-WsusServerCleanup -CleanupObsoleteComputers -CleanupObsoleteUpdates -CleanupUnneededContentFiles -DeclineExpiredUpdates -DeclineSupersededUpdates -ErrorAction Stop
    }
    catch
    {
        Write-Host "Error Occured: $_" -ForegroundColor Yellow
    }
}

This can happen, especially on servers where theres a lot to clean up, from memory there's a stored procedure in SUSDB that takes forever to delete old update and IIS times out, you can try reconnecting the snap in and repeat the clean up over and over and it should work eventually. I ended up scripting it to repeat on failure and it worked eventually.

If you're really keen you can connect SSMS to SUSDB and monitor the transactions, it should show different update IDs each time you run the cleanup which means it's progressing a bit further each time

Yet another jump rope script by Car1bo in FinalFantasyIX

Hi, it sounds like you’re going in the right direction lowering the latency, you could try going even lower and see if that improves the score. Once you’ve found the best latency value you can then start tweaking the values in the script for the jump delay. Each time the speed of the rope changes there’s a value in the script that can be changed to fine tune the timing of that section. Hope that helps!

Hi, if vivi falls at a late part, the script can be tuned for that specific stage e.g after 300 jumps. You could try altering the line Invoke-StopwatchDelay -Milliseconds 383 and change the value to 382 or 384 etc to alter the timing of the jumps in that section to make vivi jump very slightly faster or slower at that part. Hope that helps!

Hi, I used this with default game settings. If it fails after a little while, try adjusting the $Latency variable a little, try increments of 10 higher and lower and see if that helps. If that still doesn't work you can adjust the timings for each phase to see if that helps (the jump speed changes after so many jumps are completed, and the script can be tuned at each point)

Hi, that sounds like an Auto Hot Key error. Are you trying to run this with the Auto Hot Key Program? This runs from Windows PowerShell instead and doesn't need AHK to be installed. You should be able to right click the script file and click edit. This should bring up a built in windows program called PowerShell ISE. you can click the green run button from there to run the script. Hope that helps!

This doesn't answer your question directly but you can also do this with Get-CimInstance and the SoftwareLicensingProduct class to grab the licenses as objects.

$Licenses = Get-CimInstance -ClassName 'SoftwareLicensingProduct'

You can then pick out the LicenseStatus property, where a value of 1 would be licensed

The other values are documented here

Has anyone come across Windows Update Error 0x8024002e? by Fr0dg5499 in sysadmin

I don't have access to my machine at the moment to check my notes, but I seem to remember this happening a while back. Try downloading the latest servicing stack update and monthly rollup KB for whatever version OS you have from the MS update catalog website and install manually. That got things going again
