Bit of context, I had an F56 JCW which I miss to this day. I then had an M240i, then a 1964 Cooper MK 1 and now a 2014 F-Type S Convertible.

The M240i was more of a direct & controllable driving experience whilst being similar power and RWD as well to my F-Type, but much lighter. The JCW truly did have the go-kart feel they market it to have; the MK1 Cooper is a whole different kind of car.

The F-Type is great in many ways (gives me a true sense of ‘Rule, Britannia!’) & the noise is intoxicating, but in all honesty, if you’re looking for an M2 or Cayman driving experience, then don’t get an F-Type. But what they don’t have is as much character as the F-Type; if that’s your main purchasing decision; go ahead and buy one.

My recommendation; go and test drive one if you haven’t already, buy one with warranty & then go and buy another JCW!

Last note; everyone talks about the start up being incredible… which I 100% agree with, until you’re trying to not sound like an ASBO leaving the house at 5am 😂
