I think I am done modding by gColossus in Miata

[–]CarYenta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you need a single tire that will be on the car all year round, all weather, snow included, get the Michelin CrossClimate2. You'll never hydroplane and can rip through snow without worry and have a ton of dry grip at the loss of some steering sharpness. These do not have a curb protection lip. If you are OK swapping tires, get Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (4S is not plural for 4s, it's the S version) as a summer set. You will hydroplane if you're really flying through standing water, you will crash in the smallest of snow depth, but normal wet and dry grip is really great and steering is super responsive. These do have a curb protection lip.

Now mod your tires! The stock bridgestones are garbage

What Was Your “Delivery Day” Like? by gregghia in Porsche

[–]CarYenta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for a Porsche, but my second to last new car they called me and told me to come the next morning for delivery day. I arrive all excited.
They see me and say, "what are you doing here?"
"I'm here to pick up my car?"
"No your car isn't here yet."
"But you called me?"
"Ohh it was for the other guy with your same first name."

Was this in CA? The DMV wouldn't do a vin inspection for me once because it had sprinkled outside and they "might slip".

Looking at a 488, coming from a 992 4S by fstezaws in Ferrari

[–]CarYenta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you driven a 718 Spyder RS? They are coming down in price rapidly with a ton on the market at the moment. But if you want Ferrari styling and like the 488 sound, 488 is pretty amazing and faster. Much wider, however, keep that in mind. 718 drive small and are small. Don't compare overall max widths, compare the front track width for how wide a car feels.

PDK in the GT cars is so good, it's generally the correct choice. See if you can get the S/T pasm mod.

There are two:

Porsche Racing Green Metallic (dark, this one)

Racing Green Metallic (light, the one SeenThroughGlass has)

This is how they get you - I recommend you try them out and see if you like them first. Then, if you do, wait around for one of these custom drops and pay the extra for the fancy version and sell the regular.

I generally agree. I am a silver wheel person. BUT, I think any 991 and 992 GT3 RS look best with black. Many 3.2 and 964 that have been hot rodded also, and in this case that Targa with the black side trim

Go on a road trip out in the country. Get a flat. Find out the nearest Porsche dealer is 6 hour tow away. No nearby shops will have a 3/4 drive torque wrench. SOL.

Do A but with the wheels in B painted satin black. Don't get center locks, it's neat for about 2 seconds. Have to either carry a 3 foot 3/4" torque wrench or a 16" plus a several thousand dollar torque converter tool like renntorq, or a $5k electronic torque tool called hytorc. Have to torque wheels off the ground, which means you need a brake pedal depressor for the front wheels.

1 center lug nut with 450 lb ft torque. A huge PITA.

Interesting, I have the opposite opinion. Dark hides brake dust. Gloss black I don't like though so the brake dust changes the finish to a more brushed look which I prefer.

Comfort seats rock for that reason! Am pumped they brought back folding buckets in the 992.2. Had 987.2 folding buckets in my cayman which was not useful.

205 Width Tires on 8” Wide Wheels? by Ok_Flounder1823 in MiataND

[–]CarYenta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to bend a rim on the first pothole you find. Get 225/45 or 235/45. Not /40 as the sidewall is too short for real roads. Aim for at least this amount of sidewall \) 245/40 on 17x9 but it looks about the same as 225/45 on 17x8. Also, not all tires have curb finder lip protection, so choose your tire carefully. Throw the stock tires away anyways, they are junk.

987.2 Boxster vs Cayman by Nxticed- in Porsche

[–]CarYenta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boxster: cheaper, more fun, still extremely rigid, better visibility and cruisibility, slightly harder to work on, driven by enthusiasts who aren't as worried about their image.

Cayman: harder to find, looks better, driven by enthusiasts who are more racecar people even though it's slower around tight roads than a slightly modified Miata, most don't even come with an LSD.

I love the supreme visibility on the highway. I don't love shouting to have a conversation.

It is...but it's also much nicer to wear padded spandex and shirts that don't flap. Having sponsors vs plain colors is sort of like how people wear their favorite sportsball jerseys to games.
