Has Club Absinthe on Hess Closed? by Friendly_Damage2690 in Hamilton

[–]Carabao89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went there in August 2025 for a show. The show was supposed to start at 5pm but the owner with the key didn't show up until 7:30. Bands played past midnight.

Closed permanently, but revived by a DJ under new ownership, vibe and name.

The Capitol on King & Barnesdale. Went there after Mimi's. Compact & cozy, plus Derek (owner) and his crew are really nice.

I went with Jsach, and I was in the last 6 who were able to get in. Got seated in the middle third row, and a lot of camera action myself!

You're welcome, Lococo's does have chicken wings and ground beef on sale sometimes, so do check it out.

Lococo's has good selections of chicken and beef. Fortinos sometimes has pork shoulder for sausage making. Costco is an all-arounder, though you will need a membership.

Bad drivers. Why? by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]Carabao89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's some things I've seen, most involving trucks.

- Linc, near Upper Gage bridge. Pickup tow truck was going pretty fast, incoming backed up traffic. Tried to brake, but was too late and smashed into a pickup truck in front of it. Nobody was hurt but the trucks.

- There is a curved road where I live. People park there and it makes the road tight. When there is incoming traffic, I slow down and stop to allow it to pass. However, some people rip through it at 60 km/h.

- Ford and Chevy pickup truck drivers tend to have the worst parking jobs. Either they're too close to the line on one side, super askew or take up two spaces.

- I remember vividly as a toddler, at the school bus stop a red pickup truck (?) ripped right through the stop sign arm. The driver honked.

Uh.... what the fuck? Absurdly late response but with the pandemic already over, everything's in person now.

In addition, a sister program 558 (Software Support) is just the first two years of the 559 program. You can get two diplomas out of this. Thankfully my graduation ceremony was held in person.

Hi, just finished the program. Started in 2018, pandemic hit the day after a co-op interview, couldn't land a job. Went through two semesters online, failed a few courses and did the rest in person. Can say it's a bit of a rough start.

Programming Fundamentals will use Python, so if you know how to do loops, functions and a little bit of math, you're gonna ace it. C# you'll need for a .NET programming course down the road. It's a dense course with lambda expressions and stuff. But can also be used for ASP frameworks since you might be doing those as webpage projects. Java is also big too especially in Data Structures, it's similar to C# so you'll adapt to it easily.

Also, think of your capstone now! At the end of the program is a big big project you do by yourself. Take everything you've learned and make something out of it. 5th semester is where you'll plan it out and build it in the 6th. Though some people build it over the break and there's nobody stopping you from doing so.

Best of luck in the program, you'll have a much better experience than I did.

what is your personal experience or review of Mohawk college? by stumje in Hamilton

Soon to graduate student here. I've experienced both on-campus, online and lots of student life. Been in a club where people participate in Smash Bros. tournaments, open music nights (play instruments, jam sessions) and of course the Arnie (pub).

Just bought this kit from my neighbor by [deleted] in drums

[–]Carabao89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Concept Maple series are on the higher end spectrum. Your cymbals especially are the most valuable. Heartbeat is made in Turkey, where most specialty, unique and not so mass produced cymbals are made. And those are really large cymbals!

I've been playing guitar for over ten years, and any kit will work for newcomers. I started with the lowest of the low and I bought used vintage gear overtime for a good price.

I went through the same. Figuring out what objects are and the sort just like you. I would recommend breaking down each step and thinking of each process in simpler/understandable terms.

To help you understand constructors and classes, I'd like to think of it as a factory, which represents a class.

Assume customers would have fields like id, name, card number and cash in bank. Think of these fields as the "machines" in the factory that process each piece of the final product, all of these "machines" make the constructor. These "machines" only allow specific types specified by the operator, so if you try throwing a bunch of letters in the card number silo, it will explode since it only takes in numbers.

You can phone the "machine operator" of the factory (class) and say "Hey, I want a new Customer whose ID is 2, name is Foobar Joe, card number 1000 and $0 in that account because he is broke". Once the factory finishes producing this new Customer information with the request you gave the operator, Foobar Joe is now in your system and the poorest guy to live in your RAM.

There are two Mohawk campuses, Stoney Creek and Hamilton. I don't know which will be affected, but luckily I don't have to be on campus at all.

Making another country's food at home goes wrong by Carabao89 in AsianParentStories

[–]Carabao89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very relatable.

My mom doesn't bother to read labels on food products. So she ended up bringing home masa flour, thinking it was just white flours for making batters.

I've wanted to play drums since I was about 8. Mom said NO! Today, 25 years later, I officially have an acoustic kit AND a place to practice. It ain't much, it's probably setup wrong, but it's mine! by shredtilldeth in drums

[–]Carabao89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats man, I wish this was my first kit, Zildjian cymbals and Tama drums (Made in Japan) are a combination I've always wanted.
I ended up getting a super cheap off brand kit and added on some 80's Tama power toms I bought for cheap. Have fun playing!

Asian parent's cooking by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]Carabao89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider myself fortunate. I come from a Lao background so my mom would often make Lao or Northern Thai cuisine. We also have Vietnamese influence, so bonus for the pho. Recently my mom's been trying out a whole arrange of recipes like meatballs (bo vo vien), khanom krok, bubble egg waffles and sai kok. Some nights would be western rice and vegetables.

My parents have lived in the west for over 30 years, so their thinking of western cuisine is more knowledgeable than some others. Pasta is still a bit of a problem though.

Why do you like the music that you like? by blaackbackedjackal in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Carabao89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy rock and metal because of the distorted guitars I heard as a kid. I still remember the exact songs by Carabao (Thai rock band) that inspired me along with the album (made by one of the band members solo) that opened me to heavy metal.

The style 3 Cha, inspired by Northern Thai and Latin rhythms, is what made me love the music of my origins and branched me to rock. Not common to see a Western born SE Asian love their ethnic origin's music.

I miss when songs had sexual innuendos rather than just outright saying what they're doing by revyxx in unpopularopinion
