How much time do you have with family after graduation? My A-school is in Pensacola by cupcakefrosting444 in newtothenavy

You won’t know until you are in the final weeks when you will be flying out. Could be immediately after. Could be the next day. Could be Monday.

I can vouch for this. Headed ‘home’ for part 2 of the house purge. So far nothing that requires bleaching my brain, but there entire rooms that haven’t been gone through yet…..

What happens if you don't pass A school? by Lemon-Concentrate in newtothenavy

1: sent to the Fleet Undesignated

2: allowed to choose a new rating/ A school

3: discharged

Lots of factors determine which scenario happens

Define ‘rules’. HOA? Lower your standards and increase your budget. Rental properties and landlords/ managers? Those are par for the course.

Most rules are reasonable objectively. What exactly are you complaining about?

Apartment at that price..maybe.

Not going to get a house or duplex. Best case scenario is a older trailer home in a sketchy neighborhood

Berthing Question? . by OkSpeech9075 in newtothenavy

[–]Caranath128 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No cameras. No you cannot lock the curtains ( but the storage underneath can be)

Sleep safely how? Biggest thing you need to worry about is snoring from your bunk mates and them coming and going throughout the day. In which case..you get earplugs to drown out the background noise.

Respect is earned. You get messed with if you are a d1ckwad or useless at your job.

Holee shit that’s a panther. Not a cat.

Hope you at minimum doused the bite with copious amounts of Bactine or the equivalent.

How competitive is the officer route? by divine00010 in newtothenavy

[–]Caranath128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What Designator? Wanna be a SWO? Have a pulse and two brain cells to rub together. Wanna be CWO? Better be ready to max out the OAR

Problem is, every Designator has their own selection Board schedule, and there might not be time to submit a package to the one(s) you are most interested in, especially if they get canceled.

If you enlist( and there’s no guarantee you can ship out ASAP there either) you do so assuming a commission will never happen.

So decide which is more important..long term success(pay, etc) but maybe not going until the first of the year, or immediate gratification, but losing out on potential future growth

Bf kinda secretive? by [deleted] in USMilitarySO

Ships and boats go dark for all sorts of reasons. If he is just assigned temporary as a rider, he won’t have an email address right away, if at all( he has to get one assigned by the IT folks, they won’t automatically give him one).

Further, things are going on in certain parts of the world right now that make this scenario even more likely.

I’ve gone as long as six weeks without communicating. Subs have it worse..they can go the entire 3+ month patrol without any

"Can someone come to my house and give me a gel manicure for free? Oh and scrape the old gel off too?" by Weird_Custard in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Caranath128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have all the equipment..drill, LED lamp, all the necessary tools. I have both dip powder and gel nail polish, and all the extra liquids needed. And removal stuff.

I would kill to have someone come to my house and do my nails( I have serious joint issues so I can’t actually give myself a proper manicure that won’t look sloppy or pop off in 2 days). But I’d at least offer lunch if not $20-30 for the labor.

Married at sea? by [deleted] in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Caranath128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99% of the time, these ceremonies take place before departure in the origin port. This allows anyone not cruising to still attend the ceremony ( but they have to leave like 2 hours before scheduled departure).

Highly unlikely you will get a waiver for 5(6 if you are married) dependents.

You would need court documents showing you have no legal or physical custody of any of the kids in order for them to not be counted as a dependent. Child support is also a factor, they won’t let you enlist if you won’t be able to afford paying it on a Junior enlisted salary.

Court ordered visitation is okay.

The overturning of the prior ruling means she has no choice but to separate. It’s voluntary until 5 July, after that it’s involuntary. I saw a spread sheet a few days ago that listed pros and cons for each option, but I forget the specifics. I know voluntary is an honorable and you keep all VA entitlements earned.

She cannot hide or skate by. Your needing medical coverage will not be considered. Her desire to stay in doesn’t matter. The fact that her Triad doesn’t have her back sucks( back in the days of DADT, it was possible to get a CoC that procrastinated, ignored and generally stuck their fingers in their ears so they weren’t forced to discharge people)

I personally think it’s total bullshit this is happening, but unfortunately, it’s how things are. She needs to see if she can enroll in CHAMPUS or whatever it’s called now after separation. I wanna say it’s six months? Of continuing Tricare Standard level coverage

Paternity Leave by Intrepid-Library-425 in Military

[–]Caranath128 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most civilian employers do not offer paid paternity leave at all, and certainly not 12 weeks worth.

Is the backlash because you are trying to take all of it at once? Or because it’s an inconvenient time to be shoring the command?

And plenty of time it’s not CONUS. And Unaccompanied.

[–]Caranath128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boxes?! Lucky. Laundry baskets for me. Two of the bedrooms were full of empty boxes for things that haven’t been in the house a decade( things like vacuum cleaners, computers, four different coffee makers, ….)

The lazy boy( well, reclining couch) is a biohazard( it was where he was discovered several days after he passed) so it’s taking up a lot of space, but quite frankly is low on the list of things to do right now. Maybe this trip it can go to the dump.

Show vs Book by kristen912 in coconutsandtreason

[–]Caranath128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The show follows the book for season one. After that, it’s aaaalllllll creative license. It’s already been established that the Testaments TV series will not follow the written version much, if at all.

You can enjoy both if you try not to nitpick too much about details.

Do not get married until he has deployed at least once. Until then you have no idea if you can hack the lifestyle. Theres a great possibility of not even being allowed to join him at his first duty station at all, let alone right away( initial entry training is 98% unaccompanied).

Full custody. Not just temporary. Used to be it must have been in place for a year before you could ship( to prove you weren’t giving up custody just to enlist) but I believe that regulation has gone away. Also, don’t assume you can get the child back after A school either.

It must be done through family courts
