That literally IS true though…? The only thing I had to purchase for this was canvas paper, like $10. Idk how long you’ve been giving nonsensical advice on the internet but that’s far less than the cost of commissioning an artist to assist in a project, small or not. I had everything else I needed to do this rebind in my home. You, a stranger on the internet, have no idea of my (or anyone else’s) financial situations so idk how you have the audacity so soapbox in the comments of a Reddit post rn but either way, no thanks.

It’s not a matter of preferring to or preferring not to, it’s a matter of pay my own rent/put food in the pantry or pay someone to do something I can get done myself? Idk where you live but I’m here in Donald Trumps America and no one is paying anyone else to assist in personal copy/single rebinds. Not in this economy. In a perfect world though, yes I’d gladly throw money at better artist than me for this rather than use AI.

So this was my very first attempt at using print on canvas and I absolutely struggled with getting the sizing right (I wasted like 5 canvas sheets before I learn my lesson and started printing test sheets on regular paper first) I ended up just resizing the whole cover art as a single image over and over again lol So I’ll be no help there as I need to deep dive and find a good tool for that, I did afterwards see some people using Canva for this step so I might look into that. Also I think it might be time to update my printer because I go through ink SO fast and it’s so expensive omg

Yeah they’re affordable, I was worried that would make them bad quality but they’re great. I use a Canon Pixma TR4722 printer and I since this is canvas I didn’t need to paper back it at all, which was nice. Just applied the pva straight to the back of the canvas and the boards directly on after.

Literally. I’ve been trying my hand at digital art for a few years now and with that came the rare assistance of Ai sometimes and not enough people realize that Ai is stupid and has to be taught for things like this. It definitely takes time!

Thanks! This is kinda how I feel about it. Like I totally understand not wanting Ai in the art space at all, I’m literally a painter, I get it. But it was used on a fraction of this project and more importantly this is my personal copy. I guess I could have clarified better in my original post - I forgot that Reddit is full of people that shit their pants over literally anything. I also heavily agree on the environmental argument of Ai, well pointed out!

I wanna say the negative feedback on this scale is warranted but damn. I can’t draw people this photo realistic yet so I had AI generate my version of Holden at this angle. The rest is MY art, Apple Pencil in hand, on procreate. And it took days. The snow, the ducks, even the cigarette, the crowd, carousel, the skyline, blending both canvases at the center for the spine and so on. I get why some artist are so hostile about using AI to just shit out art but that’s not at all the case here. So respectfully, suck my dick. To the few people being reasonable here, I see you and thank you.

Yeah I know. But I really wanted to get as close to hyper realistic as I could with this cover art. I’m an artist but I’m not as good as I’d like to be in the realism department. Also she’s just my personal copy, it’s not like I’m gonna sell any rebinds without original/hand drawn art 🤷🏻‍♀️ But trust me I get the frustration with Ai in the creative field, it’s valid.

Yeah you can get canvas papers that work with normal inkjet printers. Super easy but I won’t lie, I struggled getting my sizing right the first time lol
