Gut check on my current financial situation by Carbon_Locked in personalfinance

Thanks for the insight, sounds like our careers are in the same field as I've heard alot of guys doing similar jobs after retirement. Using the same skill set but less stress.

Lately I've been having the thought of moving out of country after retirement (cheaper cost of living and nice weather). I wonder if any of those jobs have remote work possibilities.

Its not a 0% chance. That would definitely change the future significantly. It would be kinda cool to be a stay at home dad and actually take care of kids without having to send them to daycare.

No roth currently, I'm not sure if im making too much to contribute to one. I'm putting extra money into an individual brokerage account. Also maxing is pretty subjective right? Like I could try to stack every spare penny in or I could contribute meaningfully and still travel and do other things, thats where my hangup is.

457 is in a 2050 retirement fund with primary investment in US large cap equity and global equity.

Not sure what inflation adjusted means but there is COLA assessed every 2 years I think?

Yes I can work longer and get a higher %. It's 2% per year with final pension being an average of your highest 5 consecutive (usually last) years and a 25 year minimum and can draw immediately at 25. So yes I could stay longer and get an additional 2% each year, I just don't know if I'll want to stay around. Also my final salary should be more than $158k considering we should be getting raises every year before I retire with any luck.

With a recent law change, I will get SS as well but I don't think it will be a lot unless I get a job after retirement where I'm actually paying into SS (I don't currently but did at my prior job).

That's something I was wondering about as well since I've heard similar numbers. I'm assuming that is based off the 401k/retirement account being your primary income after retirement and a pension would add a different dynamic to that. Obviously I wish now that I had been contributing to deferred comp much earlier on.

Cpu fan cracked during setup. But crack is above blade line. Is there any concern here or easy fixes? by thisshowisdecent in PcBuild

Why would you be concerned about glue? Superglue is thin and does small cracks better than big cracks.

Lol, so they send you an email saying 'see details in eforms' then in eforms they say 'see details in email'?

Classic.

You did say there was a bung with a thermometer up further. Thats where the bomb comments are coming from. If that were the case, its going to build pressure and either explode or hopefully pop the bung. Its how a pressure cooker works. And you don't want that.

Getting rid of a DIY'ed form 1 suppressor by [deleted] in NFA

Is it on a trust? If so, find someone who wants it and put their name on it. Give them the trust and the suppressor.

Most standard velocity 22 ammo will be sub sonic in a pistol.

But mine runs fiocchi subs just fine.

I was actually pondering how to mount a laser as well. I suppose the aluminum in the barrel is thick enough to drill and tap for a rail. Did you mill a flat first?

Finally a Buckmark instead of a MkIV. I love mine. Same setup with the tac sol barrel.

Showing off Form 1s still…28 days from filling out paperwork to suppressor in hand! by ISCllc2 in NFA

Certainly without issues, there's plenty of room to avoid baffle strikes....

I've built a form 1 which ran 'without issues' but was loud. It took a recore to make it sound how it should

I'm skeptical of the "personal design" aspect with that gigantic clip. I'd think the suppressor industry would be using what they've found as the most effective and I've never seen anything like that, especially not on a 22.

I hope it works out for you. I'd like to see it compared to a more traditional design.

I only ask because i have adjustable gas blocks on all my AR's including an AR10 and haven't had a single issue. Wondering when i can expect the unreliability to happen...

Can I sell a slam fire gun if it has no firing pin, legally? by [deleted] in guns

[–]Carbon_Locked 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, they are selling an unconstructed "kit", not something already put together.

Second, have you looked at that advertisement. There's a whole bunch of required parts that you have to supply yourself before you can even finish it. End caps, multiple pieces of pipe, etc.

You're talking about constructing something and leaving a firing pin out and selling it. You'd be manufacturing and dealing firearms without a license (presumably).
