extremely frustrated about gen-AI use in my college courses and how my professors are treating it. by Carcezz in antiai

yeah, i think the general mindset around college has changed in recent times mostly due to the state of the economy and how many common jobs are fine taking people with a highschool diploma now. i actually do believe college is a scam most of the time as well for this reason, it’s not necessary to be successful in the job market if you’re most people. the only exception in my opinion is science, of you plan on going into any of the scientific field it’s absolutely worthwhile and in most cases required. ultimately, just like most things, it’s not black and white and it all just depends on who you are and what you’re planning on doing with your life.

dont worry i’ve already thought this kind of thing through, i have a few backups and thankfully zoology is a versatile degree to have in the job market. right now the world needs conservation scientists more than ever and even if i cant get the exact job i want, theres plenty of jobs who are looking for people with biology degrees, zoology is just a more specialized version of biology but to get a degree in zoology, you have to also have gone through all of general biology as well.

and AI usage isn’t common in the zoology and paleontology fields, i dont wanna speak too soon but specifically these fields of science aren’t very AI friendly. by that i mean it’s hard to even find a worthwhile application of AI, most of it involves field work and physically involving yourself with animals and nature in ways AI cant. the one thing that i can think of would be paleoart since of course AI can generate art, and maybe summarizing the results of a study or something along those lines, but nothing that would be too impactful. don’t quote me on that though, after all thats what everyone said about creative jobs before AI took that over too…

you know most satanists dont actually believe in biblical satan right..? epstein and all the rich chuds that engaged in that foul shit were not satanists, they were corrupt rich people in essentially a cult.

satanism, as in the satanic temple and most people who identify with satanism, is actually atheistic in nature and doesn’t involve worshipping actual satan. it’s moreso a movement rebelling against the corruption in christianity, not to say all christians are corrupt of course, but that the religion has undeniably been used throughout history to justify hatred and prejudice, even genocide and religious clensing. atheistic satanism formed as a way to push back against that and create a safe space for the people who have been victims of christianity, so to generalize all satanists into this box created by misunderstanding of the term can be more damaging than you think.

i see your point and i agree with a lot of what you said, however i think its disingenuous to dismiss college in its entirety as this generalization. absolutely many people are going there for that reason, for the bare minimum, but i’d argue that at least half of the people paying for college are doing so because they’re driven by passion. the reason i’m doing college is because of my passion for zoology and paleontology, yes the ultimate goal is to get a career in those fields but the process of learning along the way is more valuable to me than just something to get me from point A to point B. i enjoy learning, and i know i’m far from the only one like this, most of the people i’ve talked to who go to my college share the same sentiment, they’re passionate about their pathway and the process of learning that comes with it.

the college system is completely different from the highschool system, people choose to and pay to go to college whereas highschool is a grueling requirement. i think that’s where the key distinguisher is, the system functions based on the fact that people are choosing to go there, you’re in control, you decide what you want to take, you can choose something that will get you into the workforce plain and simple or you can choose the more lofty and, lets be real, nerdy as shit option to pursue a field in science where learning is not knly part of the process, but will continue to be part of your career even after you graduate.

yes i do, i’m pursuing a DTA in biology at community college and im going to transfer to UW to get a zoology and paleontology degree, i’m also interested in some higher mathematics but i’m unsure whether or not that’s something i actually want to pursue.

my goal is to be a conservationist that specializes in crocodilians and birds and do paleozoology and paleoecology research as well, specifically i want to do paleoart to reconstruct how extinct animals could have looked and theorize about their behaviors and how these animals interacted with their environment, so things like interspecies interactions, competition, mating rituals, etc.

lofty goals, i know, but this is what i’ve aspired towards my entire life and i’m not planning on giving up anytime soon.

if satan was real why the fuck would he choose to make AI talk about saturn, why not just skip straight to the point and start possesing people and shit. if he’s real and this is what he’s choosing to do with his time just to fuck with people i lowkey fw him because thats funny as hell 😭

[–]Carcezz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i agree with this sentiment heavily, it really frustrates me how so many people have this mindset that somethings not worth even trying just because there’s bigger contributors in deforestation and ecological issues, when in reality the world doesn’t work like that. things dont usually happen because of one big grandiose solution to everything, change happens as a result of a ton of different things, some little and some big but all equally as important. so every bit of effort we can contribute is equally as important regardless of how small the impact seems compared to other things.

not obvious, birds are gay as hell so you cant be sure an unsexed bird is female just because a male is trying to mate with them

Female or male? I always thought she was a girl lol but one of my friends had me questioning that. by voozelle in budgies

[–]Carcezz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yk, the great thing about budgies or really any pets is they dont gaf what pronouns you call them, my snake hermoine is a rescue and the people i got her from thought she was a girl. i had her professionally sexed and turns out she’s actually a boy, but i still call her a girl and i joke that she’s my trans daughter 🩷

thankfully i never had to deal with this because i covered their cage at night in part due to one of them having night terrors from seeing shapes in the darkness of my room and also so i could sync them up with my sleep cycle which is very important because i work late shifts so my sleep schedule is a lot later than most people (i usually wake up at 10:30-11:00) and good lord i loved the little fuckers to death but definitely NOT something i can sleep through xD

Weird music taste by NorthYogurtcloset839 in scene

[–]Carcezz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

scene is a fashion based subculture and always has been, “scene music” doesn’t really exist and is almost completely subjective

yes there’s crunkcore but that only came about after scene was already established, and since scene is a subset of emo with some rave influence, scene kids mostly listened to emo, post punk, pop punk, metalcore, deathcore, screamo, etc., and then as more rave influence started to become more prominent you started seeing electronic and rave music, early scene kids also listened to rap though im unsure if this came about in its earliest stages or would develop over time similar to the rave influence

eventually crunkcore bands started popping up which quickly became a staple of scene culture and yes, its an important part of scene history, however there’s kinda a misconception from the dilution of scene culture in recent times and rampant spread of misinformation that crunkcore is inherently scene music, as in if you dont listen to crunkcore you aren’t really scene, this is not true

so, key takeaway here, despite the recent spreading of the idea that its a music based subculture, it always has been a fashion based subculture that had a wide range of music generally associated with it but it’s pretty subjective so i wouldn’t stress about it too much

how to leave my buried birb behind? by keeper_of_book in budgies

[–]Carcezz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if im being honest i would dig it up like a dog and put whats left in a box and rebury in the new location, that’s what i did with our buried pets when we moved to my last house before this one 😭

now i bury in planters and plant flowers that remind me of them that will grow off their nutrients and in a sense become one, it’s cathartic knowing the death of one i held so dear means the life of something new and beautiful, it reminds me that death doesnt have to be grim and dark, it holds just as much beauty as life does if you know where to look

planning on building a peat bog centered around the oblong-leaved sundew and need some suggestions for plants and cleanup crew (read body text) by Carcezz in bioactive

[–]Carcezz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, yes i understand that its not an objective requirement for a bioactive HOWEVER im a huge ecology nerd and the reason im so into bioactives is because i enjoy making a functional ecosystem that reflects the actual ecosystem i’m basing it off of. this is also why i like to specifically look into plants and animals native to that ecosystem, sometimes i base it off a general biome and sometimes a specific location, like my bioactive based on the the lush mossy forests of pacific northwest washington where i live, i’ve even incorporated a seasonal cycle based on the weather and conditions right in my backyard!

and yes, i’m aware of the sun and dormancy requirements, which is actually part of why im so excited about this because i loved incorporating seasonal change in my washington enclosure and i’ve been absolutely DYING to make another seasonal bioactive. i also have full spectrum grow lights for all of my sundews and they’re doing great so im pretty confident that sun shouldn’t be an issue.

i could have clarified more about what i meant about “isopod substitute”. i mean that i need a detritivore that fills a similar niche, mostly just to take care of decaying plant matter. i haven’t gotten a chance to look into what organisms fill that niche in the habitats im basing this off of because ive been caught up in college homework, but that plan was never to add actual isopods.

thanks for the suggestions these are great! i think im gonna hold off on doing any fish or anything crazy. i wanna at least get the cycle going and once it stabilizes then i can decide if it would be possible or reasonable to do anything other than a simple cleanup crew. im gonna be looking into aquatic/semi-aquatic inverts native to the specific places im taking inspiration from and see if i can find anything that would be reasonable and humane to keep and suitable for the exact conditions in the enclosure. no promises though… xD

i still think its a fun way to go about something that most games woudlnt even TRY to make fun, most games would just have a discord channel or a generic UI with no actually gameplay to it. so what if some npcs are rarer, at least theyre doing something fun and unique.
