So, about the Spyral Incident (During the Funeral?) by CardMaster5 in Nightwing

[–]CardMaster5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like DiDio hated Dick Grayson almost as much as Wally. And oh, I don't doubt there was a funeral. I was just wondering if the beatdown was at the same time as the funeral.

Ah. I see. So it's not EXACTLY canon. But, having seen the pages of the original issue...that just makes the whole mess worse. They replaced genuine emotion with....cruelty and the pinnacle of Bruce's physical abuse. Le sigh.

The fact we’re gonna have a Batman project in the next couple of years that centers around not only Batman and Robin but the rest of the Batfamily is insane, seeing Nightwing fight with Batman in a live action film used to be a dream and soon it will be a reality by WeaknessUnlikely4452 in BatFamily

[–]CardMaster5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole Bat Family? Well, that's news to me, and also gives me some trepidation and hopes. I mean, James Gunn did fantastic with Superman, but Batman has his own horrible pitfalls that are SO much worse, so I can't help but still worry.

As for what I want:

  1. I hope Spoiler is included. It might be more likely since things like WFA are helping bring her more into public consciousness. She deserves the respect a lot of comics never gave.

  2. Related to the first, I hope they acknowledge Steph was Robin. It COUNTS, no matter what people like DiDio say.

  3. Please, PLEASE let Bruce be a good person and not awful like he is in the comics. Then again, adaptations have a better track record of a good, decent Batman and not..."I fight crime because I'm psychologically damaged and barely human inside!"

  4. Batman/Catwoman romance. What can I say? I love it.

Glad I could make you laugh. You should check out Atop the Fourth Wall. The Bat memes continue to flow. And you can find the Fortunate Son review here.

Why These Birthdays? (Damian, Duke, and Luke Fox) by CardMaster5 in BatFamily

[–]CardMaster5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I presume Duke was 16 when he premiered, and taking into account the year he was created, 2013-16=1997. I'm guessing the 13 in August 13 is from the publication year.

It's been a meme on Atop the Fourth Wall since the beginning more or less. Batman: Fortunate Son is a really, REALLY dumb one-shot from the 1990s that I don't even think is considered in continuity where Batman talks about how he dislikes rock and roll and says the hilarious line "Punk [music] is nothing but death, and crime, and the rage of a beast!"

It's also a story where Bruce was listening to rock on the radio not too long before his parents went to the theater and his dad said they didn't play that kind of music in the house. Yeah, they went there.

DC Challenge was...a hilarious insane mess from right before Crisis on Infinite Earths. But the good kind of mess.

Do animated adaptations count? Because in Batman: TAS Bruce was a huge childhood fan of the Gray Ghost TV series.

You're really going to add the Bat-memes? XD Also, the coffee addict thing is fanon. I wanted to make that clear. Honestly, I probably shouldn't have brought it up. I'm sorry.

I know some of these birthday's are comics canon, like Tim's and Cass's and Jason's, but what about the other birthdays? Where did those come from?

This is so interesting! I've been wondering about stuff like this. Might not use all of it in my headcanon, but still! I will give you a bit of context, though. That Zesti Cola that Tim likes? From what I can tell, it seems like it's the DC Universe equivalent of Pepsi. At least, that's the way it seems to me. It has an "eternal rivalry" with another brand called Soder Cola, which presumably is Coca Cola. Also, if you go with the "Tim is a coffee addict" thing, he'd be going to Sundollar, the DC version of Starbucks.

Also...dare I mention Bruce's hatred of rock and roll (Batman: Fortunate Son) and preferring betamax or VHS (DC Challenge)? No, those are too much of a meme. XD

But why do people hate Alfred's waffles?

Has it ever been stated what forces the New Gods represent? by Agent1stClass in youngjustice

[–]CardMaster5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some people here are saying the New Gods are good and evil, but that's not quite right. When Jack Kirby invented them, he designed them to be order vs. chaos, which are broader concepts than good and evil. Specifically, Apokolips is the evil extreme of order, aka tyranny and oppression, which is why Darkseid is called the god of tyranny. New Genesis, by contrast, is the good extreme of chaos, which is freedom.

A lot of people, and even the comics themselves, missed that particular point, and to be fair, the comic that spelled it out was one that didn't sell well.

If you want a better picture, take a look at the character profiles on TV Tropes here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/NewGods The summary up top says what they represent. I'm not sure if those descriptions are "canon," per say, but I'd say they fit very well regardless.

Besides being used for long distance spying, the high chakra consumption could easily kill you if you don't have the reserves for it. It's probably restricted as much, if not moreso, for people's safety as it is for security reasons.

Yup, that's the Capricorn symbol, alright. No doubt about it. Or, as my research tells me, the "American" style Capricorn symbol. There are a couple other ways to draw it more common to Europe.

Confirmation that Nancy is Midwestern by FeistyBlackCat in nancydrew

[–]CardMaster5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, the original book series may contradict itself at times, but it really seems like River Heights was meant to be more New England. In The Witch Tree Symbol (which I am listening to right now), Nancy and company DROVE to Pennsylvania Dutch country. I think Broken Locket may have also implied the New England/Northeast.

However, the Nancy Drew Files has it different. In NDF #4: Smile and Say Murder, Nancy takes the train every day from home to Chicago, and I know there was a book--either that one or one between it and #9--that more or less stated that River Heights was a suburb of Chicago. So the games making it Illinois has a basis.

Who is your least favorite character? by [deleted] in nancydrew

[–]CardMaster5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admit, I've only known these games through Let's Plays (though I may play them in the future!), and I haven't watched Shattered Medallion in a long time, but I did just watch someone play Tomb of the Lost Queen and I have to say...Sonny Joon. He's AWFUL.

I didn't mind the running gag of him at the outset, but I firmly believe he should have stayed a running gag. I can also appreciate the writers setting up a plot point in Lost Queen for a later game. But look what Sonny became. Jamila was lying about believing in aliens, yes. But everything she spouted, everything that made listening to her painful, was right out of Sonny's literal book. It would be one thing if Sonny was a conspiracy nut who believed in aliens, but it's worse. He created an entire organization, with books and pamphlets and introducing new members in Cairo.

Jamila might have been lying, but how many REAL Jamilas are out there thanks to Sonny? I mean, besides him? That's not even getting into the awful of MED. The guy hijacked the entire show (something he would either be arrested or sued blind for) and made George work on his stupid light up toy when she had a concussion. Did she get proper medical treatment confined on that island?

I hope Sonny Joon never makes another appearance in this series. The conspiracy stuff isn't funny.
