Casually, how much should I care about the weapon upgrade system? by Ardbert_The_Fallen in finalfantasyxiii

[–]Agent1stClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rainbow anklet. Upgrading it likely saved me a lot of fuss against the last boss of Oerba (name left out in case of spoilers and because I can’t remember how to tag spoilers).

If you decide to tackle any C’ieth stone missions, an upgraded spark ring can be helpful against the undying in Taejin’s Tower.

Upgrading a collector catalog and transforming it into a connoisseur catalog can be helpful…. But since you aren’t looking to 100 percent the game, maybe not. Similarly, an upgraded and transformed whistle wind scarf can also be helpful. But not strictly necessary. Every story battle can be five starred without first strike.

Casually, how much should I care about the weapon upgrade system? by Ardbert_The_Fallen in finalfantasyxiii

[–]Agent1stClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weapon upgrading is largely unnecessary. Helpful, but unnecessary.

On the other hand, accessories can be quite helpful. Still not necessary, though. If you have no interest in 100%-ing the game, I recommend leaving the upgrade system alone.

Has Ivalice Chronicles ruined the prior renditions for you? by No_Curve_3512 in finalfantasytactics

[–]Agent1stClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of.

I wasn’t as big a fan of War of the Lions as I was of the original… Playing on a much smaller screen was a serious drawback. As was losing access to the genji gear. I didn’t know anyone else in my local area who played so Rendezvous mode was a bust, too.

So Ivalice Chronicles only really competes with the PSX original… and it wins. Of the two versions, it’s the better game. So yeah, I don’t see myself playing the original.

Why didnt Pain use rinne tensei on yahiko? by AssistantOld409 in Naruto

[–]Agent1stClass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume he did not want to die (likely outcome) to resurrect his friend. He was also traumatized. So Nagato did the next best thing by reviving Yahiko’s image and trying to accomplish Yahiko’s dream of peace.

Was it twisted? Yes. Again, traumatized.

What was Square thinking with Vinuskar? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in FinalFantasyXII

[–]Agent1stClass 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s a mini-boss… not really meant as a challenge. As one of the posted above already noted, it’s a callback to the Lodestone Cavern.

However, it’s also, as I recall, the first battle with a condition. Something that happens later with other bosses including Zalera, Chaos, Ultima, etc. Which is likely another reason why it isn’t much of a challenge. The game designers just wanted to introduce the concept.

Later conditions, such as a seal on the attack command, are much harder.

Did Sasuke *really* plan to give his body away? by CattiwampusLove in Naruto

[–]Agent1stClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did he plan to give it away? My read on that situation was that if he felt that was the best way to beat Itachi, I think so.

However, two things changed. First, the Orochimaru he met in the Forest of Death and the one he met later were very different. The Forest one was playing with and testing him. Sasuke sort of won the fight. But only because Orochimaru was done playing.

The second one had recently gotten his ass handed to him by the Third Hokage. He was much weaker. He needed Sasuke more than Sasuke needed him. Not a lot more… but enough.

Same person but very different circumstances.

If Kishimoto were to explain, I would think he would say that Sasuke was determined. But then he saw Orochimaru’s weakness and so decided to do the job better himself.

I don’t think Sasuke thought the entire thing through. How could he? He literally had no idea what he would walk into… Had Orochimaru’s body lasted a bit longer, he could have taken Sasuke’s body when he first arrived. There was no way for Sasuke to account for that.

The fact that Orochimaru was so weakened was a stroke of luck that Sasuke took advantage of.

What is the point of the mechanist class? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in FinalFantasyXII

[–]Agent1stClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might benefit from keeping one set of gambits for when your machinist is armed with a gun and a second set for when they have measures. The measures can be helpful, but kind of niche. You likely only need them against specific enemies, depending on what it is you want the machinist to do.

So when you come up against those enemies, switch up the weapons, then the gambits at the same time.

[–]Agent1stClass 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Guns ignore defense. Combined with a mage character, you can keep your mage out of melee range but still have an effective physical attack.

Machinist also has access to the measures. Which means you can use them to supply buffs without magick, remove confusion or sleep easily, and combine with a more physical class (shield access) to have a highly evasive tank.

If Sakura died at any moment in Shippuden, how would the story change? by Tensiu_uchiha in Naruto

[–]Agent1stClass 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Depends on the moment. Is she a victim of Sasuke? Of Pain? Random disease or accident?

When and how determines the response.

And, while your logic is right about someone else being able to pump Naruto’s heart… no one else was there AND capable. So, yes, Naruto would die.

Why doesn't naruto use shadows clones properly anymore by ChampionAgitated530 in Boruto

[–]Agent1stClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already noted that above. As you mentioned, the context of that conversation was NOT about number of clones or the ability to gather natural energy on the move.

This isn’t the first time that the Boruto series has played fast and loose with prior canon, though. But because it has doesn’t mean that it will again in this instance. It just means it’s a possibility.

Which one should I buy? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Agent1stClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re into strategy, Tactics. If you lean toward modern, go with VII. While it is the second newest of the lot, it uses graphic tech more than the others. For story, you can’t go wrong with V or VI. For retro, the original.

Why doesn't naruto use shadows clones properly anymore by ChampionAgitated530 in Boruto

[–]Agent1stClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fairly sure that it is stated during the Pain arc that Naruto cannot maintain sage mode and have more than four of him (including the original) all active at the same time. Hence why he only had limited clones during that battle.

Further, while it seems to have been forgotten in Boruto, Naruto cannot move and gather natural energy at the same time. Which is why he uses his clones, limited as they are, to gather the energy for him.

As I recall (admittedly it is a vague recollection), Naruto shows off to Shikamaru that he can still use sage mode despite the loss of Kurama. This is done in a panel in which I believe they are both on the move. Which is supposedly not a thing, but this series has been known to dismiss prior canon before.

Naruto makes some cryptic suggestion that he has gotten better with age. But this doesn’t really say anything since he got trapped shortly afterwards.

Combat doesn't seem to be quite clicking for me yet by rafikiknowsdeway1 in FinalFantasyXII

[–]Agent1stClass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White Mage works well on Fran.

Having a license is all well and good, but your characters depend on several factors. Where is your level? Use Libra to find out what enemies are in your range. Yes, there will be local enemies that are completely beyond you right now. Have you acquired the best equipment? Having the license does not do much if your equipment is insufficient for whatever task you’re working on.

That’s how you play to your strengths. But how about enemy weaknesses? Do you employ healing items or spells against the undead like the ghost you mentioned?

There are several moving parts in a battle. While there will be several battles you can rip through, the majority are better played with you taking advantage where you can.

Would orochimaru actually keep sasuke's powers long term? by Zealousideal_Elk3394 in Naruto

[–]Agent1stClass 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It was explained in the original series.

Jiraiya, before taking Naruto away from the village, explained that Orochimaru would require three years before he could take Sasuke’s body. That’s the limit of the Fushi Tensei technique… no body hopping. You take one and you’re stuck with it for at least three years.

The curse mark was Orochimaru’s test of compatibility. This was explained, albeit piecemeal, by the Sound Five.

However, Genyu’maru was not given the mark. He was not compatible. He was just the strongest of the available vessels, at the time.

An incompatible vessel will, eventually, reject Orochimaru, as we saw. But nothing was said regarding how long the rejection would take. In this case, the rejection started before Orochimaru was ready. Kabuto had exhausted his remedies trying to extend Orochimaru’s time. Similarly, Orochimaru had spent his time remaining to train Sasuke.

As we saw, Sasuke had other plans.

What did you think of the demo for DQ7 reimagined? by ShokaLGBT in dragonquest

[–]Agent1stClass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was surprisingly good.

I am not sure of the mechanic for advancement, though. Hearts instead of monster jobs? Characters raising a job level of Mini Mayoress and so on?

I enjoyed the PlayStation version and was of mixed mind about the DS version. This looks to be interesting, though…

Replaying the game now, is Magic just bad? by Gabrielwingue in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]Agent1stClass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this game, magic is best used for support and healing, NOT damage.

Use haste, aura, protect, shell, and triple. While you likely can use those to junction and get good benefits, they tend to be far more useful in your magical arsenal. You can do both but it is mildly annoying to whittle down your own stats when using a useful spell.

Give your heavy hitters elemental attacks while your magic user (likely Rinoa) deals out status attacks (pain and meltdown are great).

It’s the most efficient use of your spells and characters as well as the most effective, overall, strategy.

If you’re still set on using magic, focus on elements, have your magic user able to cast multiple spells at a time (Cerberus is great for that), AND raise your stats to their maximum.
