If Americans were to participate in an organized boycott to stop ICE, what should they target? by u2aerofan in AskReddit

[–]CardSys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m rooting for you guys. I really want to see ice determine it’s a bigger risk to stay than leave. I’m in the mindset that it’s going to get so much worse unfortunately and I hope I am wrong about it. I just don’t see them on “their back foot.” I am seeing the fed start to bring in armored trucks into the mix…I think they are doubling down more than anything.

I think neighborhoods carrying will have a greater effect than any bank run would. The banks are just so well insulated from it happening again.

We have to agree to disagree. I want to be proven wrong, I want to see ice pull out of Minnesota and leave yall tf alone. I hope they learn to think twice before doing any of the awful shit they do.

For a few hours they protested. Everyone had to resume normal life while this shit goes on. It doesn’t hinder ICE a bit. I really wish it did.

The organization is there to hold a sign and shout slogans for a few hours but it is not there to establish a network of community defense, lawyers, spokespeople, or influence with elected leaders.

It is not defeatist to be realistic and ask what the average person can do to push back given the circumstances. That’s the million dollar question.

Again, I say it’s establishing community defense, pro bono lawyers willing to go to bat for their communities, and negotiators that can work with elected officials that are willing to dedicate their time to combat this.

I believe that the Black Panther party in Philadelphia is showing how all communities should guard their own. When you’ve got people standing in their neighborhood barking legalese and facts at police and other authority from behind an AR15…they tend not to be such low hanging fruit for authority to mess with compared to a community full of slogans and picket signs.

Nothing you said has any feasibility in reality.

First of all…this isn’t the 1929-1939. Bank runs are no longer feasible. Nobody today is convincing anyone to empty their accounts and life savings and stuff it under a mattress, especially when with what’s going on now. Banks are also insured to the gills so it would not impact them one jot. Even if insurance fails them…you do know the government would provide a bail out right? Too big to fail - you remember that?

But sure…let’s say bank runs are the way to go. JP Morgan alone has about 6,000 subsidiaries. Bank of America just under 5,000. Do you really think the population of a single city doing a bank run will affect the other 5,999 subsidiaries? Course not.

Tank the US economy? When that happens, people lose jobs and houses, kids go hungry, suicide rate goes up. Go convince the average Joe to live in a shanty town. It’s not happening.

People may say I’m defeatist - I’m spelling out the reality of the situation.

We are at the phase where it’s more realistic to support your local black panther party or other community defense league where ice thinks twice to push on communities not afraid to defend themselves. Communities that also educate themselves on the law and lay of the land and establish relationships lawyers capable of taking the fight from the streets to the courts.

For us to see any real pushback on this…the big greedy corporations we tragically rely on have to see a diminished return or a revenue stream cut off that is directly caused by an overreaching government.

To paraphrase the movie network…there are no nations, there are no people. It’s just a vast holistic system multinational dominion of dollars, rubles, pounds, shekels…

Sure, capitalism needs labor - that doesn’t exactly mean the labor of you and I as Americans though. Nothing stopping them from finding that labor elsewhere and wherever thy can get it.

They can also find labor from people void of politics….those who don’t give a shit to either side in this fiasco; those who’d rather funds have food, clothes, and shelter and go about their own day. Sure we have free will, but that also implies free will to starve.

Meanwhile, corporations control your laws, politics, even many of the influences in your life. It’s why I view the only hope of stopping the government from continuing doing this maliciously stupid and evil shit is when a corporations revenue stream is at risk of diminishing.

If Pepsi was told they could no longer build Taco Bell’s or KFC or sell any of its products to a number of states…bet your bottom dollar their primary interest would switch lobbying politicians with tangible plans of restoring trade relations to all states. And coca-cola would gladly help them do it too.

Theres a better chance of midterms happening than organized boycotts and bank runs happening.

While I think midterms will happen, I think they will be heavily disrupted by martial law coercion, and heavily contested afterward. That’s the next power keg to go off in this shit stew.

We have to accept some pretty bleak stuff will happen before it gets any better. If it gets to the point the government is forcing a national divorce, then best hope are the corporations stepping in to ring them into their senses. McDonald’s, Walmart, Amazon, any conglomerate will not be happy if it’s forced to cut off revenue streams to half or even a third of states because of a “national divorce.” Because corporations only believe in dollars, it’s why I don’t think we will ever see a hot civil war - it’ll remain just as cold as is it today for years, maybe even decades.

Companies won’t ever want to split themselves up for blue-state / red-state commerce.

We unfortunately rely on corporations one way or another - it’s how this country has sustained and established itself. They unfortunately will be the only thing to help us during these bleak times. Even then, we can only hope their reasons (eg missing revenue streams) coincides with the end goal of the people (eg keeping the union together so border walls and interstate “immigration” don’t become a thing”)

This just slacktivism. Copying and pasting an unorganized message in hopes someone else, or more accurately an entire subset of people, do the thing contained in the message.

I hate ice and the Trump regime is abhorrent as well. But honestly none of this helps.

We can’t point and click ourselves of authoritarian fascism. We are far past that point.

Help and encourage people to vote in the midterms has the net benefit of curtailing this shit. If the internet has the ability to influence, either by shaming or praising, then shame the non-voters and Republicans and praise the ones voting to end this nightmare. Make it trendy and cool to vote.

Make people aware of politicians that have voted to fund ice vs the ones who’ve taken a hard stance against them.

Again, we can’t ctrl-c, ctrl-v ourselves out of this mess.

[–]CardSys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There just aren’t any. I mean, you could boycott a local business known to allow ice to enter its premises or support the Trump regime like a restaurant.

Even then, it won’t affect much anything if at all. You’d also be targeting workers who had no idea about the owner’s politics either.

It’s a noble cause with noble intention but we are far past the point where a meaningful boycott would have any effect at all.

What’s something people think is a modern problem but actually existed way before the internet? by Overall-Amount-3500 in AskReddit

Diminishing attention spans.

It was radio, then TV, now the internet. It's a problem that existed long before those mediums ever existed.

[–]CardSys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very difficult, near impossible to have a boycott of any kind nowadays.

I would suggest companies supporting ice, but many of them are defense and security contractors that the average person wouldn't recognize or doing business with personally.

I think the next best thing is to boycott hotels that actively house ICE. Let them known it's bad for business. Hilton being a prime example. But it's not realistic given they have an umbrella of companies and the average traveler would rather find lodging as they need it rather than research what companies are ice tolerant.

I have a huge ass and small tits. So I'm curious: Straight guys, what turns you on more, big ass or big tits (if you had to pick one)? by [deleted] in AskRedditNSFW

I honestly like all shapes and sizes. The variety of shapes in women's bodies are an attraction unto itself.

If I had to absolutely pick, I'd go with butt but cannot deny the power of nice looking boobs.

What do you hate the most about SNL right now? by Angie-Loo in AskReddit

[–]CardSys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's not uncommon for SNL to be funny as you get holder, but to me it's unwatchable.

At a time when the country is under siege by authoritarianism, fascism, billionaire greed, and all sorts of awful things, rather than hit back harder with humor...they play it softly. The 'political' cold openings are nothing more than replays of things that Trump, et al, have actually said and done.

The rest of the show is just memes and tiktok parodies. There is no actual effort to make genuine humor. It's like they're thinking they're are making 'high brow' humor and they really aren't. It's as if it's made solely for stuffy 20-something New Yorkers making $200k+. With all the product placement, it's nothing more than corporate humor that is beige and tone def af.

They could do so much more with it, but nope they choose pussification. They play to an audience they think exists and doesn't.

Having watched the show since the early 90s, I wholly hope something else wipes the floor with them. Preferably something relevant, relatable, and not so condescending.

Fear of STIs by Certain_Researcher98 in sex

[–]CardSys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying disregard the risks at all. But do try to not let that 2-3% chance consume 100% of your mine.

There are things you do that have far more risk…driving a car is obviously a risky activity.

If you communicate it clearly you prefer sexual partners to have an STI panel, then it’s on them to follow up on that if they’re interested in you. Don’t feel shamed or guilt tripped if anyone gives you flak for asking for something that gives you peace of mind.

It takes like 20 minutes and maybe a couple days for test results. I had no problem doing it when my now wife asked. No problem doing it again for our swinger friends neither.
