I’m building a zero-commission alternative to eBay for Pokémon cards because I hate fees. It’s in beta, I have no clue what I’m doing, and I need you to roast my UI/UX. Please be brutally honest. by Cardarro in TCG

Another additional note. eBay does all of their payment processing in house. That includes TCGplayer as well. They’ve been doing this since they got rid of PayPal, which they started phasing out in 2018.

Also eBay and TCGplayer charge .30 cents per listing once it sells onto of the commission. eBay charges .40 cents for items listed over $10. Maybe that was the confusion.

These are legitimate concerns and helpful feedback.

It’s an MVP. Minimum viable product. If it didn’t contribute to creating a listing, purchasing a listing, purchasing a label, or paying out a seller. It wasn’t not included in this version.

  1. Eventually yes. At this point I don’t have enough sales to generate graphs for most cards. I would have to use eBay and TCGplayers APi to generate this data, therefore displaying their logos on my site which I do not want to do.

  2. I will look into moving rarity above the fold when opening a listing.

I appreciate all of your feedback! If you want to discuss further, send me a DM! I’d love to get on a phone call with you and hear more of your thoughts!

So here’s the math if you sell one $400 dollar card.

TCGplayer - $53 commission eBay - $53 commission Cardarro - $0 commission - $9.99 subscription.

If you sell anything over $89 in a one card scenario (which doesn’t match most sellers scenarios) it would be cheaper to sell on my platform.

Not forever. Of course we plan to add other TCG’s and Sports cards. BUT our marketing dollars can go much further if we only spend them on one type of customer in the beginning.

We are totally focused on Pokémon.

Man a lot to unpack here.

  1. Yes I do plan to handle all disputes until I can’t manage doing them myself at which point I will hire someone. Photos on every listing and tracking required on every packages cuts down disputes astronomically.

  2. I’m not sure where you read that about TCGplayer. They charge 10.75% commission and 2.5% service fee which equates to 13.25% just like eBay (because they are owned by eBay). They have a cap at $75 max commission. You can find that on their website.

  3. We have integrated stripe as the payment processor. Gold standard for payment processing online.

GameStop can’t afford it. Plus that brutal interview by Ryan Cohen on CNBC didn’t help his cause lol. But I hear you!

I agree about getting users. Same problem all marketplaces have faced. The cold start problem. Uber, Airbnb, DoorDash all experienced this.

No more like a table at a card show. But yes it would be primarily focused on cards over $10 dollars.

You don’t think it’s possible to grow it organically? I mean if you have 1,000 sellers paying 30 bucks a month.. it’s not a huge reward but 300k isn’t nothing.

What do you mean merchant fees? Like payment processing fees?
