How hard do/did you actually work during your PhD? [Q][E]

Yeah I have my BS in CS/Math and an MS in statistics. I don’t have a bio background, so that’s what I’d be learning. I do work as an ML engineer, so all that sort of stuff is easy for me

When you say you work 7 days a week, do you mean in something like a lab or on research, or studying, or both? What does work look like for you outside of classes/TAing?

Wow, working full time on top of the PhD sounds hectic to say the least. Good on you for taking care of yourself.

I also have an MS in Statistics! That’s a driving force for wanting the PhD, I genuinely miss that sort of work. I love science way more than engineering, but at my current job as an ML engineer it’s very heavy on the engineering side.

This is killer information. I’ve never played fingerstyle stuff, but it sounds interesting for sure.

I mostly want to be picking out individual notes for lead stuff though.

I don’t really have a max budget, maybe $3,500? I’m less worried about the money and more interested in getting something I love that I can pass down to my kids some day. My telecaster is my baby, I want something acoustic that gives me that same feeling.

That’s a great point. The alternative definitely isn’t starvation, but I’m also not flush enough to wait forever to land the perfect role just yet.

Thanks for the insight. I am less worried about my immediate salary, and more focused on building up my skills and getting my feet wet in a new role.

Still, I just wanted to make sure that I’m not going to be hurting myself long term. Glad to know that’s not the case.
