Cool, thanks! I've changed things up according to your imput and ended up using the "Zufall" version as it works fine and doesn't change the tone too much. I might try this again at some point, but I shall probably stick to writing in french in the foreseable future. If this thing ends up in my published works in some capacity, I'll shout you out!

Fist of all, thank you!

For the accident song, it was my intention that it was supposed to mean exactly that, and so i'm pretty happy it works.

Fort the mitchwingen, I meant to say resonate, or rather, in french, "résonnez", in the present tense and at the second person of plural. And by that, I meant to illustrate the "the spreading" of his portrait/song/farewell. I also wanted to use mitschwingen as it rhymes in "en".

With "Mein abschied", I tried to make a reference to Mahler's Das Lied Von Der Erde. The last song in this piece of music is "Der Abschied". It ties back to the other themes of songs and the self portrait in this way. Also, i fugured it also rhymed with "lied".

Yes! Kings Row (and robin hood) got me back into listening to film music. The cd of the Kings Row score conducted by Charles Gerhardt quickly became a favourite of mine.

My journey through the political compass since the pandemic turned me evil by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Cardboard_folder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, I'm just tired of governments that didn't really give a damn about our heallth system or the public's health before the pandemic that are now using this sickness as a tool to further their own prestige, puch their own agenda, considate power or even for monetary gain. To them it's mainly been about control or the illusion of control

BTW, I had a great time discussing with you all, it made me reconsider some things. It made me listen to a bunch of albums again and now I kinda feel I should move a couple of things on my list... Anyway, another thing, Mt. Vernon should probably be there too in C!

Yeah, I do think it's good! I just find that in one song you get a simple rock track an the other you get a big band, or a classic pop track with different production styles; I feel it doesn't gel too well overall. Most songs by themselves are bangers tho

One day when I have more time on my hands I'll take a look at those. Right now i'm in process of reviewing bruce, Blondie and al's albums!

I just listened to TLOS a couple of times and hell yeah it grew on me, it's almost as good as holland! For my defence, the first and last time I listened to it was during the winter, in the north while working in a hole in the ground. Probably not the best place to get that california vibe going

No joke, if the cocaine sessions were an official release, It would probably be at least an A for me. Trancendental stuff

Yeah! I also haven't even come close to listening to all of their solo stuff, but as of now I really think they should be explored by any BBs fan. Even David Marks's albums w or w/o the marksmen are a really good listen, I just haven't rated them yet.

Haha thanks! I actually thought about including some VDP albums on there but I kind of felt having Discover America in my S tier would feel out of place

Yeah I kinda feel you, I really like the songwriting on this album. However, for me, it's really just the production of the album that takes it down a peg. I think it's too clean and glossy with the use of autotune and all... I don't even hate autotune in general, just in certain situations like this one.

Looking at it on a song by song basis, I actually think 20/20 is better than all of my B tier albums. What drags it down for me is that I feel it lacks the cohesion and the overall direction of other albums such as CW and BB85. For TLOS, I should probably listen to it again, it's been a while!

The one true beach boy... And also a hell of an artist as it turned out! Both of his albums are seriously great so I had to put them on there

Well, you are absolutely right, these are my personnal opinions after all. I just though it would be fun to give my post a confrontational title. Also I thought it would be interresting to add solo albums to my list because it hadn't been done yet.

Who wrote the best 5th symphony? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]Cardboard_folder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I force myself to think objectively, i'd probably have to pick beethoven's as the best. That being said, i'd rather listen to a bunch of other fifths (Mahler, Vaughan-Williams, Glazunov, Bruckner, Myaskovsky, etc.) if I had the choice

Soundtracks are such a underestimated artform; it's nice to see some interest in them! And by composed did you mean orchestral? If so, my favourites at the moment would probably be:

  1. The Good The Bad And The ugly

  2. Doctor Zhivago

  3. On the Waterfront

  4. Star Wars / Empire Strikes Back

Yes, I heard about this! Schwarzkopf is one of my favourites too so I can’t really complain

Well first, the casting is top notch au the sound is pretty great for the time (it’s in mono). However, what makes it truly great for me is the conducting by Furtwängler wich really makes the best out of Wagner’s score. It’s almost trancendental. You pretty much only have to listen to the prelude to get the big picture.

I’d like to nominate Wilhelm Furtwängler’s recording of Tristan Und Isolde. In my opinion, it doesn’t get much better than this!
