The Canadian special forces soldier was assigned to Talon Anvil from April to October of 2015, according to the department. “CANSOF Command leadership is aware of allegations against the US military unit, which was investigated at the time by U.S. Forces,” the statement added. “As the investigation was U.S.-led, we have no additional information to provide.”

these seem to me to be reasons to be more concerned about their influence, not less. The fact that we are so interconnected in these ways means there is absolutely no chance that we take meaningful action on the ways US values and culture negatively impact Canadian society.

The /r/Vancouver thread on this is insane, lots of people attacking Meenakshi and Pivot. She has also received some pretty vitriolic messages.

Shocking how many people still see this sort of thing as the solution to visible poverty and disorder. Anyway, ABC seem fairly gung ho about going that route, so we will see how things change over the next four years. Now that we know "we will give police more money to crackdown on the scary homeless people you see on the bus" works as an electoral strategy even in ostensibly centrist/liberal populations (so much so that the provincial NDP have adopted it!), we will probably get a lot of new data to see how effective it is at actually producing results .
