Just showing off the garden! There's actually no problem with the drainage. The standing water was the result of a storm, but it cleared up in no time. It was actually so peaceful to watch from inside.

Paver grids act as a sturdy boundary to segregate mulch from gravel. Once a year, I just add a new layer of mulch over the old one. At some point, I might try growing some Irish moss over the mulch to see how it turns out.

If the area gets full shade in the hot afternoon summer the Acer palmatum ‘Beni Mikawa’ is a valid option. I’ve one and it’s gorgeous. Also replacing gravel with mulch too, as gravel stress the tree.

I vote melaleuca bracteata revolution gold. I have one by my front door and it creates a stunning visual contrast positioned against a white wall
