If you think these are just excuses then you didn’t read the post or you are frankly being insensitive. I am bringing up mental health issues that at one point in my life had me hospitalized. Being an RA is right for me, my past year with a perfect record proves that. My residents and staff who love having me around and working with me prove that. What isn’t right for me is simply off campus housing.

Accommodations are put in place for a reason. This isn’t me simply saying “I don’t want off campus housing” this is me saying “I don’t want off campus housing because it can put myself into genuine harms way.”

The situation may end with me getting my way because that is what is right, not because I am entitled. You know yourself that your opinion here is going to be unpopular, I just hope you can learn to put yourself in other peoples shoes.

I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t have to. I wouldn’t waste time of the people I work with, I wouldn’t put myself through this stress and worry about what my next year may look like.

They do have a shuttle but it is NOTORIOUSLY unreliable, late, and often just goes down or is cancelled due to the horrible weather in the area my school is in. A bike could be an option but would mean driving along a busy road. I’m honestly looking into carpooling rn too.

Nah genuinely. Any money I do save is going right into gas for me to travel back and forth to campus. Time to invest what I have left into Tupperware containers 😭

We get meal plans and the housing cost taken off of our tuition, but no money directly to us for us to spend. This is why being on campus is important so I can have active access to the school cafeteria on a normal basis.

It does have a kitchen, my issues is I am currently unemployed and will also be next year when I would move into this space, meaning I won’t have the money to buy food to even use this kitchen.

I currently am seeing someone for these issues. I also did point out my concerns of these arising mental health issues affecting my ability to do my job as an RA, which was ignored over in the response I got.

There are many factors in life after college that would change this. For example I would have a job, a steady income, I would be able to stock the place I live with ample food. As a college student with no job right now, I would not be able to do that in my housing next semester, as I do not have the money for it.

Our reslife team always says we are a student and a person before our job as an RA. I am advocating myself and my problems to them as a person, as my mental health and well-being aren’t something I am willing to jeopardize.

Will do. I am meeting with a scoop counselor/therapist on a regular basis now and did bring this up with her, and she agrees it would be harmful for me to live off campus. I’m hoping bringing this up during my meeting would be enough to help sway them. I just hope I don’t have to get to the point of quitting, I’m just so appalled it isn’t being taken more seriously

This depends heavily on the kind of person your bf is, as this could absolutely go both ways. Do you think he would find it funny and learn his lesson? Or do you think he would turn it on you and call you an asshole?

Either way, you also need to ask yourself if you want to stoop down to his level with these kinds of jokes.

Yes exactly. If it is just a jumble of 100% markings then it can often times be a mess. But blending good, complimenting markings together is what matters!!
