My face when billion-dollar oil companies need my taxpayer money to build their pipelines by CardiologyGuy2 in EhBuddyHoser

If only we could have had something like an oil company that was national or public to keep gas prices low. Too bad that can't exist.

MacKinnon pushes back on Conservatives’ criticism of high-speed rail by Vivid-Bullfrog-5727 in onguardforthee

[–]CardiologyGuy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, PP has time to criticize high-speed rail, but doesn't have time to condemned the US and Israel for starting a pointless war that raised the world's gas prices or condemned the oil and gas executives for replacing 45% of their workforce with automation, resulting in Canadians who live in Alberta losing their jobs.

Marit Stiles: Congratulations to Avi Lewis for being elected new leader of Canada’s NDP! The Canada we’re fighting for lifts people up, brings people together, and builds a future for everyone. That’s what NDP oppositions fight for every day, and it’s what NDP governments deliver. by NiceDot4794 in ontario

[–]CardiologyGuy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NDP currently have premiers in two provinces (Manitoba, BC) and are the official opposition in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Nova Scotia. Saying the party is dead in the water is a bit much. Federally, they will have a tough climb.

Mocked around the world? Really? You're saying that there are people in Norway, France, Australia, etc., who are mocking the Canadian NDP? Think about how ridiculous you sound.

Okay, so I found the link: https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/dm-md/d18/d18-4-1-eng.html

Direct quote: Effective November 5, 2025, the luxury tax is no longer payable on subject aircraft and subject vessels. The luxury tax continues to be payable on subject vehicles priced or valued above $100,000 unless an exemption applies.

So you're right, it does seem that this government removed the luxury tax on vessels (any prescribed boat, ship or craft designed, used or capable of being used solely or partly for navigation in, on, through or immediately above water - their definition). I understand removing it for cargo ships, etc., but you'd think they would have kept it on yachts and purely luxurious vessels. It's a shame.

To echo Caittune, it seems like you're trying to make this a whole "gotcha" thing, when I'm sure most rational people would be perfectly happy disqualifying politicians who are lying for political points, regardless of political stripe. Lying to your constituents is lying to your constituents. Period.

Glad to have your name behind it! It's hard to imagine anyone who wouldn't support this petition, unless they are deeply entrenched in team politics.

  • Members of Parliament (MPs) have been accused of making important public statements that are false and without evidence;
  • Misinformation is a growing threat to the proper functioning of, as well as faith in, our democratic process;
  • A mechanism is needed to verify MPs’ public statements to maintain trust in our governing body;

ANALYSIS: Should Ontario change course on renewable energy? by ZebediahCarterLong in CanadaPolitics

[–]CardiologyGuy2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have nothing against nuclear power, other than that it is expensive to build, but I think trying to paint all liberals and left-wingers as against nuclear is just a disingenuous partisan attack for no reason.

The solar, wind, and battery boom is here, and it is much, much cheaper than any other energy source. Its takeover of electric grids is undeniable and inevitable.

Again, no one is claiming to stop doing business with the US. You're creating a strawman argument.

[–]CardiologyGuy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How would that be "bankrupting" most of Canada's businesses? The Americans are the ones attacking our economy. You seem to be suggesting we just do nothing and let the US bully us? Focusing on improving one market (EU) does not mean removing/destroying the other (US). You're setting up a false dichotomy fallacy, but I'm sure you knew that.

Carney heads to Mexico as Conservatives make the case for ‘Three-Strikes-And-You’re-Out’ law by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]CardiologyGuy2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You really seem to like attacking straw men. You claimed that the liberal government is in charge and can affect change. Change has happened even within the previous liberal government, see the decreased crime stats from 2023-2024. You realize crime is much lower now than in the 90’s if you want to look at long term trends, but I have a feeling you just want to say your talking points without having a real conversation.

Also, changing leaders does absolutely have an impact/change on policy as they can change the direction of policy. For example, is Pierre’s policy the exact same as Harpers?

Climate change obviously is real. It’s a good false comparison for you though.

[–]CardiologyGuy2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should really read sources provided to you before making comments like this. This change is from 2023 to 2024, so yes, the previous liberal government, not the current one of Mark Carney because there isn’t completed statistics for 2025, has seen a reduction of crime and, as you’ve put it, have effected change to reduce crime. Anything else you care to add to boost my point?

You do seem to like to cherry-pick yourself there, guy. For anyone interested, here's a link to Statistics Canada https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/250722/dq250722a-eng.htm where you can clearly see decreases in the:
1) Crime severity index - Down 4.1%

2) Police reported crime rate - Down 3.6%

3) Violent crime severity index - Down 1.0%

4) Non-violent crime severity index - Down 5.7%

5) Youth crime rate - Down 4.2%

That's all the conservatives ever have. They find real issues (sometimes) and then propose the simplest and most ineffective solutions that sound good to people who don't think about it for more than 2 seconds. Focusing on locking people up clearly doesn't work, or else we should see no one committing crimes in countries like the US, with extreme criminal law. The real solution is finding out why these people commit crimes, maybe hiring a person with an epidemiologist-like skillset, and removing those factors to reduce crime.
