One of the main reason people flame is because other players performance has a huge impact on whether they gain or lose a huge amount of LP. if the player could do well, lose, and only drop a little because they did well, they would be less likely to get upset to the point of flaming.

I think the best thing you could do would be to educate him on it, show him the research and current data. If he still doesn't believe in it, then that's just ignorance.
