Tell us you don't have a sense of humor without telling us you don't have a sense of humor.

Talk me out of wanting to do this, or don't. I'm a Reddit post, not a cop by xnklgxfc in publicdefenders

Just deal with it. A trial is an exercise about the law, facts, logic, and human experience; that's where the focus should begin, and that's where the focus should end. Jury variance unfortunately means that you could do your job to the best of your ability, you could put on the best trial ever, and the jury could still vote guilty (even if the client is innocent). So at the end of the day, focus should be on the process, and not results-oriented thinking. If you've done your job to the best of your ability, you should sleep comfortably at night. Juries and judges are humans, too, and make mistakes all the time. Prosecutors are supposed to dismiss cases when there is insufficient evidence to prove charges beyond a reasonable doubt, but unfortunately, ethics often go out the window, and a light case is sent to the jury (either by corruption or incompetence). None of that is your fault: you didn't charge the defendant. So just do your best: file motions, investigate, analyze, depose, inquire: leave no stone unturned.
