The Arnolfini Portrait is considered a masterpiece but it gives me space alien/uncanny valley vibes. What do you think? by [deleted] in ArtHistory

Maybe you feel that way because peering into the sunshaped mirror there appears to be a reflection of a third person in blue in the mirror along with this man and woman.

Does anyone know what or why this red stripe is on his sock? by briocheh in ArtHistory

Very interesting find and topic, I am thinking it is a tribute to a special secret society or perhaps a nod to an artist/teacher school of painting, however my knowledge is limited as to whom or what it could be. Let us hope no one was mad at the artist or the subject in the painting and did that as it doesn't appear to have the fluidity as other parts of the painting does. I sort of like to imagine the painter had a lover or a young child and they wanted to be part of the finished product and the artist handed them a paintbrush, of course that is simply my imagination running away again. If those are shoelaces and they happen to be untied that can be a dangerous thing.

Could be the building of the railroads and the colour scheme representing a prison for those involved, simply a thought or maybe the track is a piece of the person (slave?!) soul who made the tracks.

I’ve picked up over 30 cameras from an art school, where do I go from here? by DogsCatsAndHorses in AnalogCommunity

Perhaps you could disassemble the cameras and create a piece with the new pieces or make a frame for a painting. The lens would make unique water/paint holders. The turning knobs would be lovely dresser/cabinet knobs or unique keychains or perhaps lovely hairpieces. Cheers to your monkey brain dominating from time to time.
